N2 Fitting and Machining Theory|Hands-On! 213 Cup grinding wheels
Tere are two well recognised cup grinding wheels: • Straight cup wheel • Double cup wheel
Te straight cup wheel has a grinding face that is a flat rim or wall on the outside of the cup while the double cup wheel has a slightly tapered rim. Both grinding wheels can bemounted and used on horizontally and vertically spindled grindingmachines. Te grinding machine motion can be reciprocal or rotary. Te working surface of both grinding wheels is on the side (rims) of the cups (as can be seen in the sketches below) and not the periphery of the cup as is the case of the disc grinding wheel above.

In a flaring cup wheel, the grinding face is also on the flat rim or wall of the cup. Note that the wall of the cup is tapered.
