A reducing bush is used to connect two pipe lines of different diameter.
Reducing socket
A reducing socket is used to join two pipes of different diameter. Tis is simpler than a reducing bush as you do not need an extra socket to complete the joint.
8.3 Joining methods of steel water pipes
• Bell-and-spigot method: Tis method is not common in an average water pipe system. Te joint requires that the end of the pipe be manufactured with a lip at one end and a gasket is required to seal the joint, as seen in Figure 8.2.

• Welded joint: Pipes can be effectively joined by welding both pipe ends together. Tis is a permanent joint. Te pipes are placed end to end and a weld is run all the way around, through 360°.
