Giving Extra W

When looking for help became something more with an Extra Help franchise

INVESTMENT LEVEL: £12,000

hen a busy, working lady needed some extra help for her own mother, little did she know that she would also realise her

dream of becoming a business owner with a passion for helping others.

Emma Clark has been the Extra Help franchisee in Leicester since March 2012. She is her own boss and manages a team of domestic helpers that look after clients who need a little extra help in their homes. Emma fi rst found Extra Help when her

mother, who was suff ering with Alzheimer’s disease, needed some support at home. She was working full-time and was trying to help her mother as much as possible. However, Emma found that her mother needed more support than she had time to give, so she started looking for a service that could bridge the gap.

Emma simply typed ‘home help’ into

Google and found Extra Help immediately. She liked the fact that Extra Help off ered social care and support at home, which was ideal as her mother didn’t need any other form of personal care, simply some help round the house. Extra Help was immediately able to provide the help that her mother so desperately needed. Emma became interested in the Extra Help business model and, having harboured plans to run her own business, decided to fi nd out more. She contacted Extra Help’s head offi ce and, after a few

discussions, Emma made the decision to leave her job and invest in an Extra Help franchise.

“Leaving a full-time paying job is a big leap of faith,” said Emma. “However, Claire and her team were extremely supportive and the fact that there are several franchisees now proves that the model works.” Emma’s progress to date has been

extremely impressive, particularly as she was voted Extra Help Franchisee of the Year in 2013 and 2014, and last year was a fi nalist in the EWIF (Encouraging Women into Franchising) Awards for the Franchisee of the Year Award. Her business is thriving and she is extremely happy with everything she has achieved so far. “My goal is to ensure that Extra Help is the No.1 home-help business in Leicester,” she said. “There is a lot of competition and it can be hard to keep the promotional activity going. I fi nd it enormously rewarding, though, when all the hard work pays off and we have so many happy customers.”
