the in-house solution and decided the latter was more advanced and 'richer in functionality'. As for mobile banking, UBL developed its own solution while Sungard 'didn't have anything to offer at the time'.
Other applications at the bank include a credit card solution from CTL, a debit card solution from TPS Pakistan (it supports ATM/POS transactions) and Oracle Financials for balance sheet calculations. Aslam said there were no problems with interfacing UBL's existing technology with Sungard's software, though the process was 'very time-consuming'.
The overall project experienced a six-month delay but Aslam expected further roll-out to go smoother and according to schedule. Talking to IBS Intelligence in late 2010, he estimated at least another two years to complete the project. The bank would continue to collaborate with Sungard and might also acquire the vendor's treasury system, Sierra (the negotiations commenced in late 2010), to replace a host of home-grown legacy solutions.
UBL’s Islamic banking subsidiary, UBL Ameen, is supported by the iMAL core banking system from Path Solutions. For further details, see the UBL Ameen/Path Solutions case study.
