In summary, it seems clear that the bank is in a much better shape second time around with its core system effort because of the lessons from its first attempt. It makes a very strong argument now for the phased approach and can show clear areas where this has helped it to head off issues at an early stage, hopefully paving the way for smooth progress as it moves onto more strategic areas than the initial SEPA focus. As a textbook study on lessons from a core banking system implementation, it may currently be lacking a definite happy ending but it is a valuable story for other banks embarking on the journey.
