The AGA’s Code of Conduct for Responsible Gaming The American Gaming Association (AGA) and its members pledge to our employees, our patrons, and the community to make responsible gaming an integral part of our daily operations across the United States. This pledge includes employee assistance and training, alcohol service, the provision of casino games, and casino gambling advertising and marketing. This Code also covers the commitment of our members to continue support for research initiatives and public awareness surrounding responsible gaming and underage gambling.


Progressing compliance-based responsible gaming programs


We know that we must continue to elevate the issue and make sure it is a priority for both gaming leaders and customer-facing individuals on the casino floor. We recognise it is important that this issue touches everyone that is involved in the industry. It’s not an issue that’s job specific, it’s important to everyone - from the consumer through to the highest levels of leadership.


What are the new approaches and opportunities for the global gaming industry and its advocates to move forward and lead the discussion on responsible gaming rather than waiting for regulators or legislators to come up with something? Should companies have a dedicated responsible gambling team or is it better to have responsible gambling embedded in the organization as a whole?


Elizabeth, you’re hosting an interactive session at the IAGA Summit looking at Responsible Gaming Programs (RGPs) from different angles:


Where are we regarding the current state of responsible gaming programs in the US?


Tis is an increasingly important issue and an area in which we are growing our investment focus and increasing our resources to unify the industry and amplify our approach to this issue. Te AGA endeavours to keep up-to-date on new problem gaming research, examining very closely the National Centre for Responsible Gaming’s academic research, while also looking at the opportunities in which we can update the tools and resources we create for the industry. Te AGA’s online store is a resource we provide to the industry that offers informational brochures; on-premises posters and a wide variety of pamphlets that raise the awareness of consumers and

the importance of this issue to the wider public. Te AGA is also currently in the process of evaluating areas in which can enhance our Responsible Gaming Code of Conduct with the goal of releasing an update before the end of this year.


Do current RGPs go far enough beyond the remit of compliance?


When we look at this issue, it isn’t just about regulatory compliance and making sure those obligations are met; we look at it more comprehensively and take a holistic approach to the issue. Te AGA’s view is that it’s about being a good community parter and creating a strong environment as an employer, as we know that employees really value the opportunity to learn more and be educated about responsible gaming. As casino operators and suppliers are employers of a large number of employees, they are constantly looking at how they
