UK – Inspired Entertainment has celebrated the success of its Virtual Grand National, which saw the predicted winner, Cause Of Causes, finish in second place in the live event at Aintree. Following an exclusive long term partnership with Carm Productions and The Jockey Club, Inspired’s Virtual Grand National 2017 was broadcast for the first time on national television in the UK on the Friday evening ahead of the live event on Saturday.
The virtual race, which was uniquely developed to feature the 40 declared runners and riders from the 2017 Grand National field, used complex data algorithms to eventually predict Cause Of Causes as the winner of the 2017 Grand National. In a nail- biting climax, One For Arthur took the title, with the virtually predicted winner finishing a close second.
“Trying to predict the result of what can often be one of the most unpredictable races in the sporting calendar was always going to pose a risk and a challenge,” said Steve Rogers, CCO Digital Games, Inspired, “but I’m delighted that the strength of the algorithms which we used to devise the product have proven their sophistication.”
UK – SIS has signed an agreement with B2B tote supplier, The Global Tote (TGT), for UK & Irish greyhound content. The deal allows TGT, a subsidiary of TopBetta Holdings, to broadcast UK and Irish Greyhound racing events, and TGT will distribute live picture content and The Global Tote odds services to international bookmakers for their punters around the world.
Paul Witten, Commercial Director of SIS, said: "We are excited to be working with The Global Tote to provide them with some of the best horse and greyhound content in the world. We are sure that this content will prove popular with their customers globally and generate significant revenues."
TopBetta CEO, Todd Buckingham, said "It's a significant deal for all stakeholders; firstly, that TGT can distribute both live vision and The Global Tote odds service to bookmakers to, in turn, offer their punters access to more content, as well as competitive pricing. Importantly for all parties, this is TGT's commercial model for how to monetise racing content into new jurisdictions - live content with a no-risk betting engine that generates revenue for race clubs, bookmakers and TGT - and at the same time gives punters the best value product in the market.
"TGT intends to apply this model across as many bookmaker channels around the world as it can, and will continue to work with bodies from all racing codes that would like to gain access to global markets."

Te Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, KSA) has confirmed it will deploy a stricter enforcement strategy for the coming period to combat illegal online gambling.
Tis means that the KSA will no longer issue a warning first but will take immediate enforcement measures. Such measures may involve fines of up to €820,000 or 10 per cent of the operator’s turnover.
It is expected that the KSA will also continue to put up barriers against third party service providers that provide services to illegal operators (such as payment service providers).
Te KSA will increase the level of enforcement, as it considers visible enforcement as the “Achilles heel” of a regulator. It confirms that it is fully ready to meet the 80 per cent channeling degree to the legal online offer as envisaged by the Dutch government, meaning that the KSA will actively fight against illegal online operators.
UK
Greentube has acquired Mazooma Interactive Games (MIG) to streamline the interactive units across the Novomatic Group. MIG plays a key role in the UK market and provides a game integration capability to enable land-based games to enter the online market. Te company has focused its attention on developing digital content for Internet and mobile markets both in the UK and internationally. Te conception of Greentube UK provides Mazooma’s former customer base local access to the entire Novomatic Group portfolio – as well as Greentube’s products and services. Greentube UK will retain the game build and its design capabilities in this new format. Georg Gubo, Greentube COO, added: “Tis is a significant business reorganisation to support our growth plans in the UK both from a B2B and B2C perspective.”
Cordish reconfirms ‘steadfast commit- ment’ to Madrid
Spain
Heads of Te Cordish Companies David S. Cordish and Joseph S. Weinberg have sent a letter to the head of Madrid city government Cristina Cifuentes, which reaffirms their willingness to build a large scale resort and casino in the municipality of Torres de la Alameda. Te letter re-confirms the companies “steadfast commitment to develop the full €2.2bn project master plan submitted to the Autonomous Community of Madrid Government.” Te company also says that it is willing to “quickly resolve any outstanding issues.”
In December Cordish announced plans to create a large scale hotel, casino and leisure complex near Madrid. Te company said that it had
chosen Madrid due to its already existing infrastructure, its increasing popularity amongst tourists and well developed transportation networks. However last month, having originally welcomed the plan, Madrid’s regional government ruled it could not go ahead in its current form.
It estimated that the government would have to spend €340m on road and rail infrastructure to provide access to the out-of-town complex. However in its letter, Cordish Companies has not requested any infrastructure improvements on behalf of the government for the project and states that “no public” subsidy” has been requested. It also says that no “public aid or tax benefits not already provided for in any current laws and/or regulations, will be requested or sought for the benefit of the Project” and that the company would fully comply “with applicable governing legislation.
It said that despite its efforts, fines imposed are difficult to collect. Tis is partly because a binding remedy to collect fines imposed on foreign illegal online operators is lacking, but also because offenders are often unable to pay because of debts issues. Despite this, the KSA takes several steps to improve the number of fines actually collected.
Te KSA expects to grant a totalizator license in Q2 2017.
A number of charity lottery license applications are still being handled over the coming period.
Te KSA will be closely involved in the revised casino regime, whereby Holland Casino will be privatized. Sixteen business locations will be sold and two additional licenses for new locations will be issued. Te KSA will be responsible for granting the necessary licenses and will supervise the (feasibility of the) new regime. It is unknown when the new regime will kick off: the bill was adopted by the House of Representatives on 31 January 2017 and will now be handled by the Senate.
