247.COM Brazil Plans to Privatise Sports-Betting
Te Brazilian government is planning to privatise instants, sports betting lotteries and online sports betting in order to double the revenue it collects in gaming tax revenue. Tis would raise tax revenue from R$6bn to R$12bn over the next few years. According to local sources Congress will soon begin debating a bill which would allow for sports betting lotteries, as well as online betting which will be known collectively as "Sportingbet."
Te news follows the announcement in September that Lotex - the instant lottery ticket arm of Brazil’s largest state owned bank and lottery operator CAIXA - would be auctioned off as part of a 25 point plan designed to kick-start the economy. According to reports now surfacing in local media the licensing process for Lotex could begin in August and the auction could go ahead in November. However the tender could go ahead a month before so that the new privatised version of Lotex could well be in operation by the first half of 2018.
Meanwhile CAIXA will continue to run and operate traditional lotteries such as its most popular lottery the Mega-Sena which is drawn twice weekly and CAIXA will be a minority
GLI trains Argentina’s Loteria Nacional Sociedad del Estado

Gaming Laboratories International experts traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to perform a series of training sessions for the Loteria Nacional Sociedad del Estado, the gaming regulatory entity for the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Te City of Buenos Aires is home to three casinos that are regulated by the Loteria Nacional Sociedad del Estado, and more than 6,000 gaming machines are in operation. Te regulatory entity contacted GLI to provide expert and customized training as part of its efforts to continue their strong inspection department personnel’s professional development and skills.

According to the Te Secretary for Economic Monitoring, which is part of the Ministry of Finance, the decrease was due to the downturn in the Brazilian economy in 2016.
Brazil offers a huge and as yet untapped market when it comes to sports betting. One of the reasons behind the huge popularity of online sports betting is that there is no bricks and mortar solution in place to meet demand.

Chairman of the board of Enjoy, Javier Martínez has urged the authorities for more clarity when it comes to the licensing process for municipal casinos. In a letter published in the 2016 Annual Report, Mr Martínez, asked that the "uncertainties" which currently revolve around the bidding process be resolved. “In Chile, we are confident that the authorities will resolve the current uncertainty over the operating permits of the municipal casinos, which represent an important source of revenue for Enjoy, work for our employees and resources for the municipalities," he said. Enjoy operates nine properties in Chile and Mr Martínez said that the company had reported sustained growth in its gaming, hospitality, gastronomy and entertainment operations. Meanwhile tourist spending was down in Punta del Este Uruguay due to a decrease in visitors from both Brazil and Argentina. While the Enjoy owned Conrad hotel recorded a “shortfall” which will be difficult to recover, he said.
