ASIA Elecronic Table Games

Michael Hu, Vice President Asia, Interblock

In November 2016, Michael Hu was promoted from Sales Director of Asia, to Vice President of Asia. Prior to Interblock, Michael served as Sales Manager of Asia for TCSJohnHuxley, Australia, where he managed and developed sales strategies to maximize revenue in Asia. He also served as Sales Executive of Asia for IndoPacific Gaming, Australia, a company that distributes live casino table games and slot machines to Asia and Australasian markets.

Grandstanding in Asian markets - why ETGs are such BIG news

Ahead of the G2E Asia gaming show in Macau, G3 talks to Interblock’s Vice President of Asia, Michael Hu, about the growing scale of Electronic Table Game installs with regional operators who are ‘thinking big’ when it comes to ETGs

Michael, why are ETGs so popular in Asian markets right now, and what specifically about Interblock’s products are proving so attractive with operators?

Electronic table games (ETGs) offer a variety of player benefits especially appealing to Asian demographics such a true table game experience, more privacy and more games per hour. Tey offer players lower buy-ins than live table games, and even provide beginner players with the opportunity to learn games at their own pace in a low-stress environment.

Interblock is an operator and player favorite due to our product’s radiant appearance, cutting- edge technology and intuitive player experience. Our products are bold and create a strong focal point on any casino floor, large or small.

Interblock recently installed a 50-seat Stadium at Sky Casino, a new casino at Resorts World Genting Malaysia. There are lots of different configurations possible with this product, could you describe this installation and explain how Genting is using this product?

Yes, the Stadium product line is incredibly modular and can be customised to any customer preference or need.

Interblock Stadiums can be a combination of our three generator types: dealer assist, automated or video generators. Te dealer assist platform is offered in four different dealer assist generators including wheel, dice, traditional cards, or multi-hand card, allowing for the configuration of six different game forms, such as Roulette, Craps, Sic Bo, Baccarat, Blackjack, and Multi-hand Blackjack.

Genting’s unique multi-game space consists of three generators, connecting players to four games: two Baccarat games, Roulette, and Sic Bo conducted by real, live dealers. Fifty player stations make up the space and a video wall configured behind the live dealers displays statistics, trends and results.

Even though Genting’s games are dealer assisted, the Stadium can easily turn into an automated Stadium when dealers are not present, providing a continuous revenue stream even when live dealers are not available.

We’ve seen some of the largest volume installations of multi-players taking place in Asia - what’s the reason for this and how are operators configuring their floors to incorporate ETGs that’s different from other markets?

Many factors explain the growth of large ETG installations in Asia. In areas where the government has put a cap on live table games, ETGs have been finding their niche. Tey are also improving operators’ bottom line, due to their ability to be active 24/7 with or without a live dealer, they eliminate collusion and dealer error, and increase game speed—multiplying the number of games per hour for increased revenue.

In certain markets throughout Asia, ETGs are really aiding the overall health of Asian markets as they recover from the collapse of the VIP market and the current caps on table count limits.

Are operators using all the configurations possible when they create their Stadiums - such as the dealer-assisted/fully automated, multiple different games and wheels etc.?

Absolutely—as I mentioned earlier, Stadiums are a customisable product and operators are creating fully dealer assisted, fully automated, or combinations of both depending on space and needs. Operators are combining multiple game types in their Stadium spaces, providing players with multiple game options.

What are operators’ views of Interblock’s PULSA ARENA, with its spectacle and audience interaction. Is it a product that would fit with Asian player preferences?

PULSE ARENA is one of the only products of its kind that truly transforms an entire section of a casino floor by combining music, social media, lights, and interactivity.

PULSE provides an ideal gambling experience for operators who are looking to draw in new players and to reenergize existing players looking for new ways to wager. We believe the PULSE ARENA is the right option for certain casinos, however, throughout Asia our Stadium configurations work for every type of casino.

In February, Interblock installed 100 units on the Okada Manila casino floor, including 84 play stations and two automated Diamond Roulette configurations with eight units. Are we going to see increasingly large stadium installations in Asia in the future or are the smaller eight unit configurations still the focus for the majority of operators?

As new casinos open throughout Asia, I think we will see an increase in large stadium installations. We recently introduced a 50-seat Stadium at Resorts World Genting; a 40 seat Stadium at One Opera Hotel; and a 40-seat Stadium in New World Hotel.
