Parent Tot


Parent Tot Swim – Ages: 6-24 months Parent Tot Swim is an introductory program for parents and chil- dren designed to expose toddlers to the swimming pool envi- ronment. Each class promotes water safety, aquatic knowledge, swimming readiness skills, as well as fun and enjoyment in the water.

Water Tots – Ages: 2-5 years Water Tots is a program designed for preschool children to prepare them for swim school. This class focuses on support- ed floating, beginner arms and kicks, as well as fun and enjoy- ment. Small playful groups encourage separation from parents during the lesson.

Swim School – Ages: 5-10 years Swim School is broken into two different sections: Beginner and Intermediate with two sub-sections in which children will be placed depending on skill level. All participants need to start in beginner classes if they have not started swim school. A set of skills will need to be passed in order to move on to the next level. You will not need to specify what level; placement testing occurs on the first day of class.

BEGINNER Minnow – Swims 15 feet (by self without floatation). Other basic skills: Floats on back and front with help, sit/fall in from side, willingly goes under water.


Leap Frog – Swim 15 feet on back (by self without float). Other basic skills: Kick 30 feet on both front and back, jumps in from side, front glide 2 body lengths, rhythmic breathing 10 reps.

INTERMEDIATE Sea Horse – Swims 30 feet (using crawl stroke and rhythmic breathing) and swims 25 yards on back. Other basic skills: Turns from front to back, swims with rhyt- mic breathing, treads water for 2 minutes, completes kneeling or standing dive. Swims 15 feet using back crawl, can do two different kicks on both front and back, com- pletes a dive, treads water for 4 minutes.


Sting Ray – Swims 15 yards (front crawl stroke using side breathing and swims 15 yards (elementa- ry backstroke). Other basic skills: Swims 25 yards using two different strokes, sidestroke kick 10 yards, breaststroke arms for 10 yards, willingly dives off diving board, treads water for 6 minutes.

Advanced Skills; Ducks – Ages: 7-14 years Advanced skill lessons are for advanced swimmers who have graduated from Swim School and want to continue advancing their skills. These lessons are taught by former and current Ducks Swim Team competitors and can help prepare young swimmers to swim competitively, or for other swimming goals. Each swimmer will receive a checklist of skills that they can work towards to complete throughout the summer. Every les- son will accommodate each advanced swimmer and the level they are at.

Primary Skills – Ages: 10-16 years Designed for the older child (10-16) who have never taken swim lessons before or has a fear of the water. This class will focus on basic beginner skills.


Adult Swim Lessons/Water Safety – Ages: 16+ It is never too late to learn how to swim! Adult swim lessons will teach water safety topics in and around water, in addition to learning free style, backstroke, breaststroke, floating and elementary backstroke.


Semi-Private Lessons – Class Ratio is 1:3 Semi-Private lessons are a 1:3 ratio class that are designed to help participants feel comfortable and safe in the water. These lessons are more individualized than group lessons, help swimmers gain confidence and cover all levels of swimming ability.

Private Lessons – Class Ratio is 1:1 Private Lessons are one-on-one instruction with an instructor based on the participants swimming goals and are available for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

Guidelines for Swim Lesson Registration: 1. SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION. Registration


can be completed in person or online. If a fami- ly account has been established ahead of time, registration can be received by fax or mail, but it will be processed in a timely manner.


2. IN PERSON - A SWIM LESSON REGISTRA-


TION FORM IS NEEDED TO REGISTER FOR ALL SWIM LESSONS. Any registration received on the incorrect form will not be pro- cessed until the correct form is completed. Swim Lesson forms can be picked at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center and the Sports Center. A separate swim lesson form is required for each household.


3. NEW RESIDENT ACCOUNTS ONLY: To


receive resident rates, two forms of proof of residency are required at the time of registra- tion. Examples of proof of residency require- ments are:


• Valid State ID or Driver’s License AND • Real Estate Tax Bill, current utility bill (no older than 60 days), proof of recent real estate contract closing or voter’s ID card.


4. A PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN CAN ONLY


REGISTER CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE. A legal guardian needs to provide proof of guardianship at the time of registration. Please Note: Aunts, uncles or neighbors cannot regis- ter a child if they do not have legal guardianship.

Lessons will be canceled during thunderstorms and unseasonably cold weather. Cancellations will be determined by the Learn-to-Swim Coordinator 30 minutes prior to class time. Sorry, if you miss a class due to personal reasons, it will not be made up, nor is it refundable.


9. DECK RULES: Parents: Unless involved in the


Parent Tot or Morning Exercise Program, parents are NOT allowed on the pool deck during lessons. An observation deck is available while waiting.
