3 New Members Join Asiavision

MTV of Papua New Guinea, TVTM of Turkmenistan and MTRK of Uzbekistan have recently joined Asiavision - the daily TV news exchange programme


run by ABU. This makes now a total number of 29 members who are benefiting from the exchange of news items through our online file-based platform.


Public radio and television channels are under the jurisdiction of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for


Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography. The Committee oversees TVTM seven TV channels and four Radio channels.


MTRK, the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, is the national broadcaster and operates four television channels and four radio channels.


EM TV is a commercial television station in Papua New Guinea. Until the launch of the National Television Service in September 2008, it was the only free to air television service in the country.


It is owned by Fiji Television, through a subsidiary, Media Niugini. It was previously owned by the Nine Network of Australia.


The signing ceremony took place in Sendai, Japan during the ABU Global News Forum 2015 and the News Group Meeting.

The massive blaze at the automobile tyre plant in Thailand’s Chon Buri province occurred on the night of 1 February. Strong winds led the fire to spread rapidly to six warehouses storing over 1 million tyres.


No death or injury was reported in the incident.

RTM won the December 2014 Award for its coverage of the worst flooding to hit Malaysia in decades.


The Malaysian public broadcaster was quick to provide material of the calamity which hit many states on the peninsula and the eastern state of Sabah. The hardest hit states were Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang due to the seasonal northeast monsoon.


At the height of the flooding in late December, the number of evacuees stood at around 200,000 nationwide.


CCTV-China was the winner of the November Award for its coverage of a deadly fire at a Chinese food packing plant in eastern Shandong province.


At least 18 people were killed in the fire which occurred in the evening of 16 November. 13 people were injured in the blaze.


Authorities believe around 140 people were at work when the fire broke out at the carrot packing plant.
