broadcasters and producers, based on the cooperation between the ABU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, Japan. The project took off in 2013 and the second round was organised in 2014.
Organised in conjunction with the Malaysian-Japan Content Fair 2015 last March in Kuala Lumpur, the 1Asia 2014 initiative, ended on a high note with the premiere of eight co-productions broadcast across Asian terrestrial broadcasters and worldwide broadcast websites in February this year.
The eight ABU member countries participating this year include Malaysia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines and Vietnam. ABU broadcasters work with producers and broadcasters across Japan to film on location in extraordinary places including Osaka, Nara, Niigata, Hokkaido, Miyagi and Nagano. The programs are produced with the idea of allowing co-directors to

In Malaysia, an exciting collaboration between RTM and Japan’s Mainichi Productions resulted in an inspiring wintery episode of Xplorasi, an acclaimed adventure show on RTM TV1. In his speech, the Japanese Vice- Minister for Policy Coordination for International Affairs, Mr Yasuo Sakamoto said that such initiative aims at developing friendship and understanding between Japan and Malaysia and also among all Asian countries.
Dr Javad Mottaghi, ABU Secretary- General talked about the exceptional relationship between MIC and ABU and thanked RTM for its contribution in this initiative. He hoped that all
ABU members could benefit a lot from the co-productions. At ABU, it’s just the beginning, Dr Mottaghi said, underlining that country members can deliver their content to about 3.5 billion viewers throughout the Asia- Pacific region where they can focus on commonalities, and this is what ABU is about.
According to Mrs Norliza Ali, RTM Programming Director, 1Asia 2014 brings fresh ideas and a fruitful collaboration among Asian countries. The co-productions were not only entertaining but informative as well, she said.
ABU Programming Director, Mr Tatsuhiro Beniko stressed on the importance of such initiative for the benefit of all ABU member countries. All those present at the ceremony got the opportunity to have a glimpse of the co-production trailer of Xplorasi- Memory of Kuruyori Hut, between Radio Television Malaysia/RTM and Mainichi Productions Japan.
