DBS 2015: Enabling Change Smartly

The ABU Secretary-General also reiterated, “while we are taking advantage of emerging delivery mechanisms, we should also make use of broadcasting based on its strengths.”
The industry keynote address was delivered by Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio, Australia and Asia- Pacific Chair of WorldDMB, which is the main sponsor of DBS 2015. She made an overview of the current status of Digital Radio and the DAB+ technology in various parts of the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

he DBS 2015 opened on Monday 2 March 2015 at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur with a pre-symposium on the status and future of DVB-T2 technology.
In his message on the occasion of the Symposium, ABU Secretary-General Dr Javad Mottaghi stated that “the rapid technological developments that are influencing the media landscape bring challenges and opportunities to the broadcasting industry.”
In his opening remarks, Dr Amal Punchihewa, ABU Technology Director presented a survey on technological advancement in ABU member countries. The report revealed that there is low readiness for going digital in the Asia-Pacific region. But many countries are making much effort to have their broadcasting infrastructures and networks up to date.
This year the DBS brought together some 900 delegates coming from more than 40 countries. Most of them were ABU members but also invited high-profile speakers from USA, Europe and different parts of Asia. 73 speakers participated in the Symposium through the 11 conference sessions and 13 workshops. The exhibition set up in the context of the Symposium attracted visitors from different areas of the broadcasting industry. The main sponsor of this ABU event was WorldDMB supported by Ericsson, MediaGuru and WASP3D.
