ILSA Chapter Happenings the reality of the crime.
This year, the ILS also began a new breakfast- roundtable series. These small group lectures featured members of the Vanderbilt International Legal Studies faculty. The first program focused on international copyright issues and the com- plexities of doing business in China, hosted by Professor Daniel Gervais. ILS followed this pro- gram with a meeting on the laws and issues sur- rounding Human Shields, hosted by Professor Michael Newton. The series allowed students to interact with professors in small group settings, enjoy a meal together, and learn about new top- ics unlikely to be explored at such an in-depth level in class. This is especially useful for the 1L class, who used these opportunities to acquaint themselves with the excellent International Law staff at Vanderbilt before entering their classes next year. Next semester, ILS is looking forward to continue the series with the rest of the Vander- bilt International Legal faculty.
Next semester, ILS looks forward to co-sponsor- ing a Hyatt event on the legal issues surround- ing the conflict in Gaza, bringing back a popular Middle Eastern Dinner event that ILS will host for the entire school, as well as hosting a social dinner and community service event for the ILS membership.
KUBARAK UNIV. LSA
Kubarak University School of Law Nakuru, KENYA
The enactment of the Kabarak University Law Students Association (KULSA) at the Kabarak University School of Law on 1st November 2012, was a milestone in the journey of establishing a centre of excellence in the Kabarak legal sphere. The association is dedicated to academic excel- lence and professional growth amongst law stu- dents. It further works toward the attainment and
preservation of the right of the individual student to acquire quality legal education in a just and reasonable manner facilitated through interaction and communication between the students, the faculty and the administration.
Through the able leadership of the KULSA offi- cials, the association has participated in a number of legal activities this year. These activities involve legal awareness programs at Kampi ya Moto, Ol-rongaiand and a legal aid clinic at the Nakuru law courts and Nakuru G.K prisons, all within the County of Nakuru. Also, the association took legal awareness outside the county of Nakuru. The as- sociation, with the help and support of the Coun- ty government of Narok and the Law Society of Kenya branch of Narok County, conducted a legal awareness and legal clinic in Narok during the August holidays. We set up legal clinics at Narok town, Ntulele and Nairegi Nkare trading centres. Through conducting the legal aid and legal clin- ics in Narok County, the association was able to expand its impact on the local communities with legal knowledge and assist those in need of legal representation by providing them with lawyers who were with us during the exercise.
The Association also has its Journals and Publi- cations department, a department that has been able to provide a platform for students to write articles and submit them for publication and ed- iting. Through the editing work, the department ensures that the submissions made by the stu- dents meet expected levels of integrity and pro- fessionalism. As a result, there is the production of monthly bulletins and our yearly Law review which is different from the monthly bulletins in that the review contains research materials on law while the bulletins contain commentaries, views and also personal opinions of students, re- lating to any matter that affects them education- ally, although there is emphasis on writing about issues relating to law.
This year the association celebrated its second ILSA Quarterly » volume 23 » issue 2 » December 2014
