Focus on Public International Law at one of the most important centers of international law practice in the world! Our Paris program was established in 1973 as the first summer law program on the continent of Europe. Its monuments, museums and restaurants make it one of the most pleasant cities in the world.
Nanterre is a cosmopolitan school, draw- ing students from throughout Europe and beyond. The Nanterre law department offers a full program of basic, intermediate, and advanced courses in law. In addition, the Nanterre faculty specializes in international trade law, human rights law, and labor law among other subjects. The program requires French proficiency.
Our program in Paris prepares students for transnational practice in the United States and around the world. The Institute‰Ûªs courses in international and compara- tive studies reflect the global dimension of today’s legal problems. The Program includes visits to the French Supreme Court, the National Assembly and world-famous museums.
The program begins in Paris, with visits to the courts, the Paris Bar Association, and a law school with speakers including promi- nent judges and lawyers. We then travel to Arcachon, a scenic seaside town, for the remainder of the program. Arcachon is an ideal environment for study and exposure to French culture. It is also an hour from Bordeaux, where we will visit the National Judge School.
Students studying in this program ben- efit from a dual focus on comparative and international law. American and French professors examine various aspects of United States and French legal systems and European community law in classes in which there are both United States and French students. Students also meet with members of the judiciary and the legal profession.
