now be penalized for corruption under either the Act or the Indian Penal Code of 1860. The Preven- tion of Corruption Act deals with offences related to taking gratifications other than legal remunera- tion, acceptance of valuable items in one’s official capacity without payment, as well as bribes of public servants or for public influence. Under the Act, corruption is policed by the Central Vigilance Commission, a statutory body; the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has jurisdiction over the central government as well as the union territories; and the State Anti Corruption Bureaus, which ex- ercise jurisdiction over the states. This represents India’s vast framework designed to curb the grow- ing menace of corruption.

ICC: Second Investigation into Crimes Against Humanity in the Central African Republic
On September 24, 2014, International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda an- nounced that the ICC had opened an investi- gation into crimes against humanity allegedly committed in the Central African Republic (CAR). The investigation began at the urging of the CAR Interim President Catherine Samba-Panza and after a preliminary examination by the ICC in Feb- ruary 2014. This is the second ICC investigation focused on the CAR since 2004.
The first investigation culminated in 2004 and focused on crimes committed in 2002 and 2003. The second inquiry will focus on crimes allegedly committed since September 2012. The alleged crimes against humanity include murder, torture, rape, pillage, use of child soldiers, and attacking personnel or objects used in a humanitarian mis- sion.
The violence, which has in the past year forced more than twenty percent of the CAR’s 4.6 mil- lion people from their homes, originated in 2001. That is the same year the CAR ratified the Rome
