Golden Copper Cabin

The first project using Luvata’s Nordic Royal alloy in the UK is a symbolic lakeside shelter informed by a fairytale created by its designers, Studio Weave. Freya’s Cabin is one of a pair of allegorical visitors’ shelters by Studio Weave overlooking Kielder Water, northern Europe’s largest man-made lake. The Cabin is constructed from CNC-cut plywood layers pressed together, with each layer having a cutout shape like a stage set. Preformed trays of Luvata’s Nordic Royal sheets have been used to wrap the roof, sides and underside of the Cabin.

Cover Available From Self-Build Zone

With extensions and renovations the focus of attention for many homeowners at present, it’s important to consider the implications of insurance as surprisingly, these types of projects are quite complex. Most home insurance policies exclude cover whilst the property is undergoing alteration or renovation and don’t cover unoccupied properties beyond 60 days – on that basis you soon see that traditional home insurance is of little use when you are extending or renovating. Builders or tradesmen carrying Public liability are only responsible for negligence (which you would have to prove) so works in progress, plant, equipment or materials that are your responsibility are unlikely to be covered. Site Insurance, which protects the house and extension or renovation works, plant and equipment on an All Risks basis including Public Liability and Employers Liability, is specifically designed to provide the cover you need. Whether you are building or renovating for your own use or to market cover is available from Self-Build Zone. ...searchable archive at www.buildingconstructiondesign.eu
