March, 2015 Inductive Charging for WiGauge from Solartron

Bognor Regis, West Sussex, UK — AMETEK Solartron Metrology has introduced an inductive charging op- tion for its well-established Wi - Gauge™ wireless bore gauges. The new battery pack charges the device whenever it is placed into the charg- er cradle, allowing the tool to be used continually with little or no down- time.

With built-in heat and time re-

strictions, the versatile gauging tool will not overheat during long charg- ing periods of charge nor will it charge for over 24 hours, permitting the tool to be left over weekends or over long holiday periods without any safety or performance concerns. The WiGauge’s inductive battery can

last up to 5 hours on a single charge. The WiGauge offers manufac-

turers greater freedom and flexibility in the design and placement of man- ufacturing workstations. Its IP65-

rated design makes it the perfect choice for demanding factory floor conditions. The device is well suited for manufacturing operations, such as automotive components, that pro- duce precision bored holes. The wire- less device utilizes Class 1Bluetooth® technology to transmit data up to 15m away, however Class 2 and 3 can be selected if required. This wire- less capability allows an operator to test components unencumbered by the cables that typically accompany this type of electronic gauge, and it eliminates the need for cables to download measurement data. The gauge operator is notified

by visual and audio pass/fail indica- tors as to whether a machine tool

component meets its specifications. For multiple operator convenience, multiple WiGauges can be connected to a single computer. The WiGauge Gen II is offered

with an optional integral LCD dis- play for added flexibility and func- tionality. Both WiGauge Gen I and II are

compatible with industry standard M6 and M10 gauge head threads. The internal transducer is linear along its full measuring range, mak- ing the devices easy to set up and adaptable for applications other than bore gauging. Resolution is user se-

lectable up to 0.1µm. Contact: Solartron Metrology, Steyning Way, Bognor Regis,

Ericsson Power Modules in Quarter- Brick

Stockholm, Sweden —Ericsson has in- troduced the industry’s first 580W high-power DC/DC intermediate bus converter (IBC) module in a quarter- brick format to target Advanced Telecommunications Computing Ar- chitecture (ATCA) applications, which is now well established as a leading high-availability architecture for the telecommunications market. Based on the company’s innova-

tive high-power-density Hybrid Reg- ulated Ratio (HRR) topology, the new PKM4613ANH delivers a tightly reg- ulated output voltage that complies with ATCA input voltage require- ments — including a stable voltage supply from 40.5V — and also stan- dardized system voltages for telecom applications. The new HRR module guaran-

tees tightly regulated 11.6V output voltage at 50A (580W) from 38.5V, thereby offering additional voltage margin to ensure systems are ready to operate at minimum ATCA volt- age requirements, even in low tem- perature environments or in case of power line disturbances. Important- ly, Ericsson’s built-in HRR technolo- gy enables guaranteed operation up to 75V with no derating, which cov- ers telecom applications and also complies with the ETSI EN 300 132- 2 European Standard for both 48V and 60V systems. The PKM4613ANH has an over-

all operating input voltage range from 36 to 75V and delivers an efficiency of 96.4 percent at 48V input, 50 percent load. In addition, the module’s built-in low-power controller enables power consumption as low as 0.3W when the device is in standby mode. The product comes in the indus-

try standard quarter-brick format, and measures 57.9 x 36.8 x 11.4mm (2.28 x 1.45 x 0.448-in.) for the open frame version and 57.9 x 36.8 x 14.3mm (2.28 x 1.45 x 0.563-in.) for

the baseplate version. Contact: LM Ericsson,
