Marvin Delivers First TS-323 GENASYS Test Platform to Lockheed

Irvine, CA — Marvin Test Solutions, a provider of innovative test solu- tions for military, aerospace, and manufacturing organizations, has delivered its TS-323 GENASYS Test Platform to Lockheed Martin Space

subsystem with any-pin-to-any-re- source architecture and switch man- agement software that provides auto- mated, end-to-end signal routing. It also includes a high-performance dig- ital subsystem that supports up to 512 I/O pins with multiple timing sets and per-pin PMU capability. The system will be deployed by LMSSC for the functional testing of satellite systems and subsystems. The GENASYS platform with

its new switching subsystem, solves the problem of legacy ATE systems that are no longer supported. With a compact footprint, open, expandable

architecture, and SwitchEasy soft- ware, the GENASYS platform eases the burden on test engineers, becom- ing a replacement for obsolete legacy digital functional test systems from manufacturers including Teradyne, Schlumberger, and GenRad. The platform also can form the basis for a completely new system that will ad- dress next-generation, complex test- ing challenges and manage up to 4,500 interface test points without manual programming. Lockheed Martin’s test require-

ments for future applications in- clude: an open architecture, a func-

tional test platform that is config- urable, scalable, and the capability to support more than 4,000 I/O test points as well offering performance digital and analog test capabilities. The GENASYS platform, with its high-performance digital subsystem and high-density switching subsys- tem, provides LMSSC the required functionality to support both legacy

and future test needs. Contact: Marvin Test Solutions,

Nanotec: First Sensorless Control for Stepper Motors

Feldkirchen/Munich, Germany — Nanotec has launched a sensorless control for stepper motors in which the speed of the rotor is determined by means of a “virtual encoder” with- in the controller. This enables the stepper motor to be operated as a servo-motor — with no step loss, no resonance and no risk of overheating. In Nanotec’s sensorless system,

an auto setup routine measures the connected motor and automatically de- termines all the required parameters. Depending on the motor type,

speed and positioning information is obtained at a lower speed of between 25 and 250 rpm with an accuracy com- parable to that of an optical encoder with 500 or 1000 increments, so that a level of control can be achieved of the same quality and with the same torque as a motor controlled by an encoder. It is possible to switch automati-

cally to open-loop mode for lower speeds and for positioning purposes. This technology means that it is

now possible to exploit the advan- tages of closed-loop mode in applica- tions in which the classic closed loop with encoder cannot be used due to cost constraints. The new sensorless control is

available as a firmware update for all N and C series controllers from Nan- otec.
