10:00 – 11:00 Beyond BYOD –How Can We Make It Happen? Room D204 Speaker: Neta Lempert, CTS, VP Digital Business Development, Kramer Electronics

Statistics show that the number of tablets and smart phones manufactured today now exceeds the number of laptops manufactured. This statement has a direct effect on today’s business environment, where users bring their own device (BYOD) to the corporate room, leaving AV and IT professionals with the challenge of how to connect these devices to the corporate video equipment installed in the room. We will review the global trends in the tablet segment vs. the laptop segment and review the challenges these delicate shifts of weight can impose on AV installations. We will explore various options for connecting mobile devices, not neglecting the traditional method of connecting through computers. Finally, we will define what should AV professionals consider before planning and designing a modern meeting or collaboration room.

10:00 – 11:00 Wohin entwickelt sich die Signalübertragung von Bildschirmsignalen: HDBaseT, DisplayPort, HD-SDI, oder IP-TV? Room D203 Speaker: Claus Lohse, CTS, Syscomtec Distribution AG Language: German

11:30 – 12:30 AV Systems Commissioning (Performance Verification) Best Practices Room D204 Speaker: Bill Thomas, CTS-I, Staff Instructor, InfoComm International Presented by: InfoComm International

Who should be doing what to verify the functionality and performance of AV systems at handover to the client? This presentation explores best practices, tips and hints with perspectives from an installer, a designer and InfoComm’s role. The presentation includes a procedural look at the roles of client, designer and installer covering what needs to be done both ‘on the day’ and what should have been done beforehand. There will also be an introduction and status update to InfoComm’s proposed new Standard 10:2013 ‘Audiovisual Systems Performance Verification’, which is currently in development.

11:30 – 12:30 Network Everything: Implement a Single Network for Audio, Video, Control, Signage, P.O.S., and Data Room D203 Speaker: Richard Zwiebel, Vice President, Systems Strategy, QSC Audio

With recent advancements in the IT industry, it is now possible to carry many channels of audio and video, along with point of sale, control, signage and ticketing information over a single network. These products can interact with each other, which is currently being done over standard layer 3 Ethernet using readily available switches from leading manufacturers such as Cisco and HP. This session will explain this process through the use of standard Ethernet and review of the types of products from each product category that work together today. A demonstration of a networked system with products from several manufacturers will show the methods currently used and control interoperability. This course will not go into details of switch settings but rather focus on the higher level of how the products can all coexist. Examples of real world projects in use today will be included.

This excerpt from InfoComm’s Networked AV Systems course covers areas of interest to both end-users who are considering implementing a digital signage system and distributors or integrators who may provide digital signage solutions. Topics will include overviews of the types and possible configurations of digital signage, content delivery methods and options, and considerations for making the right choices for a particular project. Also discussed will be important questions which should be answered before a project begins to ensure the chosen solution meets the actual needs.

14:30 – 16:30 Digital Video At Length Room D203 Speaker: Joe Cornwall, CTS-D, ISF-C, Technology Evangelist, C2G Inc

The importance of dependable digital video connectivity continues to grow exponentially as a plethora of consumer and commercial TMDS-enabled devices change the nature of installed AV. With analogue infrastructure all but gone, being able to deploy point-to-point connectivity solutions that support digital video content at critical middle distances is vital. Under 20 metres, AV connections are often best served in a native format. Beyond 100 metres, AVB or IP solutions may provide the better results, but in the critical range between 20 and 100 metres, copper structured wiring delivers the greatest efficiency and value. In this presentation participants will explore the characteristics and technology deployed in HD over UTP and HDBaseT connectivity solutions. This exploration will focus on operational theory, comparative performance metrics, and practical application of the technology to common AV installations.
