NEWS Convergence comes ever-closer AVNU ALLIANCE

XMOS, Biamp Systems and Extreme Networks are demonstrating products that feature Audio Video Bridging (AVB) interoperability at ISE 2014. All three companies are members of the AVnu Alliance, dedicated to promoting the adoption of IEEE 802.1 AVB standards over the network infrastructure. XMOS is demonstrating its new multicore micro-controller that delivers low cost daisy-chain Ethernet AVB. The company claims that daisy-chaining dramatically reduces AVB installation and equipment costs and enables conferencing and

in-building audio and media Ethernet solutions. It also supports automotive and industrial applications that require audio and media networking. The AVB solutions are production- ready, yet customisable, so designers can add system functions such as clock management, audio signal processing and custom control protocols. Biamp Systems is launching a number of substantial updates to its Tesira networked digital media platform, Nexia digital sound processors, and Vocia public address and voice evacuation product lines at ISE 2014. The AVB

focus for the show is on Tesira, which offers modular scalable I/Os, DSPs and networked end-points. Extreme Networks is exhibiting the Summit X440, Summit X460, and Summit X670 top-of-rack

AVB-enabled Ethernet switches, which provide Gigabit Ethernet, 10Gigabit Ethernet and 40Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. The company says its AVB-enabled switches could unify data, audio and video traffic on a single

Touched by the hand of interactivity BENQ EUROPE

To enhance interactivity for business and educational use, BenQ has extended its range of digital signage and interactive flat panels to include enhanced multitouch features that should make its displays feel just like large tablets. The screens range

in size from 42in to 70in. The new IL460 uses an

advanced infrared design to support a six-point multitouch display for extra-smooth, intuitive pointing precision. It also has anti-image retention to prevent the burn-in effect of images even after an extended period of usage. It is claimed to

have an average life of 50,000 hours – enough for years of 24/7 operation.

The new PH550/PH460 models have “a virtually invisible super narrow 5.3 to 5.4mm bezel display, perfect for building seamless videowalls”. The Multiple Display Administrator application, which controls and

monitors multiple displays remotely, helps to prevent display shutdown due to surging current. An optional Color Calibration system automatically unifies the colour profile of each display on the videowall for the best-aggregated presentation through a central PC. The new RP Series features an

Anti-Glare glass to reduce reflection, while Multi-Touch technology gives responsive feedback with accurate positioning “so you can touch the screen to pan, zoom and scroll images and operate education software presentation with just your fingers – like using a tablet.” Stand: 4-S56

3D Storm’s LiveCG Football enhances the fan experience

LiveXpert makes the difference 3D STORM

Described as a range of tools developed to ease production workflow, LiveXpert – which is distributed by 3D Storm – is said by the company to give producers the ability to produce more content without compromising on budget and quality, and offer all the keys to see the big picture, take on more ambitious projects and make the difference. “3D Storm and IDCromvideo

worked together to develop essential tools dedicated to live production and live sport professionals,” said Franck

Lafage, director of 3D Storm. “We are thrilled to distribute LiveXpert. These tools are essential to cope with all aspects of today’s productions.” LiveXpert Tools include add- ons for NewTek TriCaster, which can be used as remote applications or as independent products, giving video switcher operators the freedom to focus on the production operations. LiveXpert Tools are said to enhance live production workflow, speed up production time, reduce costs, increase revenue opportunities, and widen the audience with instant high-quality

media content to enjoy a full live experience. LiveCG Football is a

professional graphics management application for the NewTek TriCaster, providing complete management of graphics for football live productions including scoring, timing, statistics and database (players’ names, referees, teams, leagues, countries and so on). It runs from a remote computer connected to the network input of a TriCaster. It is also possible for advertising and sponsors’ visuals to be inserted. Stand: 11-F54

The new C2-2855 Universal Scaler from TV One has more input/output flexibility than any previous TV One scaler. It can be set up and managed quickly using a new frontpanel or via a Windows-based emulator that allows set-up in less than one-third of the time of the previous generation. The C2-2855 promises high- quality bidirectional conversion between a variety of analogue and digital video formats. Inputs and outputs can be SD/HD/3G-SDI, HDMI, DVI, Composite Video, YC, YUV, YPbPr or RGB. The unit also adds a Still Image Store and Logo Layer. Signal parameters of the

incoming

video may be adjusted, and all settings are stored in non- volatile memory and retained even when power is switched off. Twelve user-defined presets are available to customise settings for various

applications. All functions can be controlled via the front panel push buttons, a serial (RS-232) or Ethernet (IP) connection.

Also new is the MX-8488 8 HDMI Input x 8 HDBaseT Output Matrix Router, which is designed to distribute HDMI sources (with 3D support) to up to eight different destinations via HDBaseT over Cat6. The MX- 8488 supports HDMI (with HDCP) video with Deep Colour, EDID and 7.1 channel audio. The switcher uses single link (225MHz/ 6.75Gbps) video processing circuitry.

Stand: 4-R62

Extreme Networks’ Summit X670 supports AVB standards for real- time and time-sensitive AV transmissions over Ethernet

network and simplify management throughout AV environments. Such a network becomes AVB device-aware and is able to reserve bandwidth and ensure accurate sync and timing. Stand: 7-H195
