IMPROVE

The designer of the ISE Residential and Commercial Solutions Theatres in Halls 7 and 8 has called on integrators and installers to adopt a more holistic, flexible and human-centric approach to design. As the owner of a technical

company, Improve CEO Antoinette Wijffels is a technology fan, “but sometimes we forget that humans also need other things in life, and it’s a nice idea to integrate their values. “We are sometimes out of balance as a whole sector, and it is

nice to bring a bit of balance back in,” she said. Rather than have 10 projectors, say, “sometimes we can get away with four”, by adding other things like decorations. She advises integrators “not only to think in numbers (such as 10 projectors), but to think about the whole picture. What does your client really want to achieve with this equipment? By displaying more freedom in their designs, “they allow the customers the ability to build their own dreams”. In ISE’s Commercial Solutions Theatre (8-H310), Improve used

DATASAT DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT

Datasat’s new LS10 audio processor for home cinemas and media rooms can deliver fully immersive 3D sound with speaker configurations up to 13.2. It is designed to

produce clean, precise and realistic motion picture sound, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, DTS Master Audio and DTS Neo:X. Optionally it can support Auro-3D, which enables both upmixing of standard content and decoding of native Auro-3D content, for up to 13.2 discrete channels of surround sound (although 11.1 is the most available for movies yet), so that users can add both height and overhead channels.

immersive sound format will allow “home audiences to experience blockbuster movies such as Elysiumand Ender’s Gameas they were originally intended,” said Ciaran Doran, Datasat Group CEO. “Blu-rays are coming out for it this quarter, and DreamWorks has committed to it for its next 15 movies.” The 15-channel LS10 also intelligently enhances game playing and streaming sports to become the cornerstone of a home

entertainment system. Datasat and Auro Technologies

are among the technology partners for the Immersive Sound Experience in Room E105. Stand: 5-U110

three projectors for a wide screen, plus two moving projectors (to project on the floor and walls), to

add “fun, playful things, because people want to play, and the possibility to put information in the 3D areas where people don’t expect it”. Combined with swivel chairs, it allows visitors to be more active and engage their sense of wonder. Using moving lenses and cloth backdrops or walls isn’t as precise as using a high-quality screen, “but you don’t always need that”, she maintained. The theatres are free to all

visitors, with talks every half-hour between 11:00 and 15:00. Stand: 8-H345

Digital floorplan shows the way

3D-BERLIN VR SOLUTIONS

ISE 2014 showgoers are being given a little extra guidance this year, with an official digital floorplan that matches the innovative nature of the show itself. According to CEO Adrian

Zentner (pictured right, with the company’s Bjorn Clausen) of floorplan designer 3D-Berlin VR Solutions, usability was a very important requirement. He added: “The challenge was to allow people to find very specific information and at the same time get a broad overview of what they can find at the show in general.” When an exhibitor is selected, the floorplan offers pop up information, as well as an
