DIGITAL SIGNAGE Venturing into LED screens MODE-AL
In a departure from the business with which it is most closely associated – designing and manufacturing digital signage support structures for the DOOH industry – Mode-AL is showcasing its own custom- designed LED panels. This fusion brings together two key components for the digital signage industry, the company says, enabling it to provide system integrators with a one- stop shop for the purchase of digital signage systems. Following its announcement in February 2013, the Android- based BroadSign Xpress smart player became available to customers in September and is being shown throughout ISE 2014.
The media player marks
BroadSign’s first foray into the digital signage hardware solutions market. The company announced its first large-scale order in the autumn, with a request for more than 1,000 units coming from a client who recently subscribed to the company’s Software as a Service offering. Following the release of
BroadSign Xpress, 200 participants across the globe were given a beta player as part of the BroadSign Trailblazer Program. Recipients tested the smart player throughout the duration of the programme and BroadSign incorporated the resulting feedback into its final product design. The media player runs on
Android and BroadSign says it was created to eliminate the challenge of selecting a good long-term hardware solution and to reduce the cost of hardware per deployment. BroadSign Xpress supports 1080p HD video (with a firmware upgrade), HTML5, Adobe Flash, multiframe, interactivity, and wired and wireless connectivity. It offers 1GB memory and 16GB SSD internal storage. Stand: 8-E250

This unique and patented system enables service of any size LED wall from the front, removing the requirement for large service ways or complex mechanisms to allow access to the rear of the tiles. “We have seen the slow movement of LED digital signage into the interior DOOH market over the last two years and we have been waiting until the
square metre price point of the LED panels equals the equivalent price of the high bright (700+ nits) LCD screens per square metre,” said managing director David Lees. “Mode-AL can now meet these criteria with a 3.0mm pitch LED panel, providing for the first time a credible, alternative to large arrays of LCD screens.” Stand: 11-E60
