skills to be successful. Buying a franchise doesn’t guarantee success if you are not the right type of person. But a good franchisor will work hard developing their brand and their processes, allowing you time to concentrate on getting work in your local market.”

“We are leaders in our sector and we see a tremendous future ahead as the market is by no means saturated”

ack in 2007, Nathan Holmes dreamed about running a business. Leaving college with an IT background, Nathan felt he was well equipped for the world, but

the reality of everyday work was not the challenge he sought. He says: “I always had a keen interest in anything automotive and decided that I wanted to put my skills to use to benefit myself rather than working for someone else.” Nathan looked around at a number of opportunities and settled on SMART repairs. He confirms: “When I saw Revive!, and how they approach the SMART repair industry, I was impressed. The meeting with Revive! was a breath of fresh air, nothing was sugar coated, it was honest and I could see a massive difference between Revive! and other franchises in the sector. Revive! are driving the professionalism up in SMART repairs – they look for business owners rather than guys who will just paint cars – and that fitted my ambition perfectly. “Revive! have very strong company values that help to position them firmly as brand leaders. customer service ethos fits well with my own values. I felt straight away that we ‘fit’.” Revive! offer a mobile service to car owners repairing minor scuffs and scrapes to vehicles, often referred to as a SMART repair. Nathan started ‘hands on’ in a van but knew that the future lay in managing a bigger business. “I knew I needed to be able to do the repairs myself to fully understand the business but it was never my intention to stay as a ‘man in a van’. From the early days when I was in a van to now there has been tremendous growth and change… being able to run and manage the business, rather than working all day on the tools, opens so many more opportunities. Nathan currently runs six vans including a dedicated wheel van and a static site and has seen a transformation in the business. “We are without doubt the leaders in our sector both locally and nationally and while the work is excellent today, we also see a tremendous future ahead – because the market is by no means saturated.” “Sometimes, new franchisees looking at Revive! call me to ask whether they should take the plunge. I always say ‘yes’ – but only if they are sure that they have the

Revive! have also been at the forefront of developing a national standard and accreditation for SMART repairers. Managing director Mark Llewellyn was one of the industry experts who participated in an ‘expert working group’ to develop a set of core competencies against which cosmetic repairers could be assessed. The ‘Cosmetic Repair Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA)’ was introduced to the suite of accreditations administered by the IMI Awards Ltd. Taking full advantage of this initiative, Nathan was one of the first franchise owners to be assessed for this accreditation and can now proudly call himself an ‘Expert Paint Technician’. Revive! operations director Terry Mullen says: “Nathan is a great fit with Revive! He understands that we are looking for quality people who are serious about outstanding customer service whilst running a significant business and he knows that Revive! are the professional brand within SMART repairs. We believe that our role is twofold. Firstly, to support our franchisees in achieving their potential, and also to recruit more excellent franchise owners like Nathan to grow our network further.” n
