MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
Spotlight on WAFIOS Umformtechnik
At its most recent in-house exhibition WAFIOS Umformtechnik presented a range of innovations including a cutting-edge thread rolling machine and the fastest cold former.
from all over the world visiting Wuppertal, Germany, to experience first hand the innovations from WAFIOS, to see the presentations and to talk to other experts. Sven Nieper, general manager of WAFIOS Umformtechnik,
T
commented: “We are extremely satisfied with the feedback and are pleased that our excellent innovative technologies matched the expectations of the visitors. The in-house exhibition was a striking success for us especially in attracting new business.” While in recent years the focus has been on WAFIOS’ cold
headers for processing high-tensile alloys, this year the emphasis of the event lay with thread rolling technology.
Thread rolling machine FN12-100 One of the highlights for WAFIOS
Umformtechnik was the flat-die thread roller FN12 equipped with induction heating in the feeding rails. This type of machine is suitable for the production of intricate precision parts with ballistic point. Prior to the thread rolling operation, the blank area to be rolled is heated to the right temperature in order to reduce the tensile strength, it is easier to roll ultra-high-tensile fasteners - cracking and hollow rolling is avoided. Furthermore everyone at the exhibition had the chance to have a look at Motion Plus, the new drive concept for FN12, developed by WAFIOS Umformtechnik for reduction of change over time. “For this reason this new thread
rolling machine combines high quality with high productivity.”
Cold former (1-die 2-blow) HC800 Demonstrating the HC800 at the exhibition at a speed of 800 pcs/min triggered great expectations of the visitors, with WAFIOS stating that the HC800 is the fastest cold former in its category. The most important innovation of the HC800 is the new space saving design of the machine that is made by a new composition of the additional components and the optimised noise protection. This new technology stands for economy in space for plant operators and efficient placement of the machines in production halls with restricted room capacities.
technology as well as on the advantage of modern drive and control technology. The special feature of this machine - the variable speed drive is adapted to the material and thread parameters of the application. The effect is an optimised quality of the thread and a longer tap life. General Manager Sven Nieper said: “Thank you to all the
interested parties and visitors for coming to our in-house exhibition, to all our partners for arranging first-class lectures and to our staff for making this event possible with direct engagement. Even now we are looking forward to the next in-house exhibition.”

he traditional in-house exhibition of the WAFIOS Group is well established, and recognised as an international industry professional trade show. It was held from 24th
– 27th April 2013, with attendees and plant operators
Further innovations and presentations of machines The 2-die 3-blow former CF2N is an established and proven machine for forming of preheated wire. The forming process with only 2 dies can better hold the heat in the part. This proven technology of the 2-die 3-blow former has been combined economically with extended equipment. The automatic pointer SKM08 is the economical solution
for machining shaft ends. This machine is suitable for shaft- measurements that can only be produced by machining. At the WAFIOS in-house exhibition several examples had been presented from practical experience. The two-spindle, high-speed MAS06F nut tapping machine was also shown to visitors with a special application, cutting thread into a collar-nut with high production speed of 200 pcs/ min. This machine is based on the well-proven bent shank tap
