type loads will tend to loosen a hex nut, a SPIROL jam nut can be used to maintain joint integrity. The hex nut is used to provide the tension to the bolt and the jam nut is used to provide a secondary load to the hex nut. It is not subject to the same
operational conditions as the bolt and hex nut. It is typically 2
the thickness of its respective hex nut series counterpart. Series H30 hex machine screw nuts are general purpose and designed to be used specifically with machine screws in light to moderate loads or with bolts for heavy loads. The Series H31 small pattern hex machine screw nuts are designed to be used for light loads. In applications where there is limited room for wrenching, the smaller hex size is an advantage.

changing temperatures and vibrational movement. The SmartLiner’s trough-shaped design creates higher pressure

loading compared to conventional worm gear, increasing resistance against leaks. SmartSeal is currently available in sizes covering clamping ranges from 26mm to 148mm in all stainless steel construction. “SmartSeal is our most advanced technology,” says Mike Reese, Ideal’s president and CEO. “Its SmartLiner provides a high pressure seal, that’s critical in heavy duty applications, at about a third the weight of traditional heavy duty clamps. Based on early feedback from OEM customers we’ve tested it with, we believe SmartSeal will play a big role in meeting higher fuel efficiency standards.” In preparation for this new product, Ideal has also upgraded its brand with a new 40 page IDEAL-TRIDON catalogue and new trademarked racks that have been designed to look like an actual clamp.

PIROL says that its machined nuts are held 100% square to the tap and are superior to cold formed and punched nuts that are wound on to taps and not held. Their cut threads roll freely with no ‘tight’ spots whilst their
Series H40 hex panel nuts are often used wherever a light
duty precision fastener is needed. Applications for panel nuts include switch hardware, potentiometer controls, cable gland fasteners and lightweight lock nuts. Series C10 closed cap nuts decoratively finish the exposed ends of bolts, and also offer protection from the sharp edges of bolts. Completely machined dome surfaces ensure safe handling and smooth and bright finishing. Series C20 open cap nuts are used for assembly of bolts whose lengths are imprecise and intended to go all the way through the fastener. Clean machining provides a superior surface for plating and offers a quality appearance. Series T10 knurled thumb nuts are used in applications
where a fastener needs to be adjusted and secured to a finger tight degree. Popular applications include panel mounts, home hardware, tension adjustment hardware and electrical applications. They are machined with no thickness variations or burrs. Heavy countersinks permit tightening over the shank portion of bolts that can extend slightly above the surface.

Techsil’s new structural adhesives range
Techsil has announced a new cyanoacrylate and anaerobic adhesive range.
D
eveloped to offer customers more cost effective alternatives to top end brands, Techsil says it has invested resources into choosing a high quality manufacturing partner, resulting in
these high performance products. The new range includes a universal surface insensitive
cyanoacrylate of medium viscosity - 100cPs, which Techsil says will bond many substrates in seconds. It is a high performance regular superglue adhesive. Also included in the range is a fast curing plastic and rubber cyanoacrylate of low viscosity - 20cPs, which is a superglue for bonding O-rings and such like. Four anaerobic threadlockers are included in the
range such as a blue nutlock which is medium strength and oil tolerant, which prevents corrosion and allows easy disassembly with hand tools. A red studlock for permanent threadlocking of large bolts and studs prevents corrosion and only allows disassembly after heat has been applied and only with specific tools, is also included. In addition, a green maximum strength and high temperature retaining compound, up to 230°C, suitable for close fitting cylindrical parts is included in the range. Finally, there is a pneumatic and hydraulic thread sealant for locking high pressure threads, yet allows controlled disassembly. It contains no fillers that could contaminate systems.
