OEMs continue to drive Fastenal sales


Fastenal Co reported sales grew 9.8% to US$286.6 million (218.7 million euros) in April, with daily sales gaining 4.8% to US$13,028.

uring the month, manufacturing customers grew 5.1% and non-residential construction customers grew 0.4%. The company opened no new stores last month; it opened four the same month 2012. The company has opened a total of 11 new stores in 2013, down from the 32 it opened in the first four months of the previous year. Fastenal’s total head count increased marginally to 13,280 in April. Non-store selling personnel grew 13.3%


to 1,185, while administrative personnel increased 7.7% to 852, manufacturing personnel rose 4.2% to 567, and distribution personnel rose 0.8% to 1,846.


Emerald Steel Processing sold to Shannon Precision Fasteners


Founded in 2001 by Chuck O’Brien and Linda O’Brien, Emerald provided steel processing for cold heading.


’Brien died in 2007 at the age of 66 and the company was sold by Linda O’Brien. He had been president of Ring Screw Works in Madison Heights, MI, before selling the company to


Textron Inc in 1998. Chuck O’Brien was the 1991-92 chairman of the Industrial Fasteners Institute. Shannon Precision Fastener was formed in 2004 and manufactures bolts, cap screws, studs and washers for power trains, chassis parts and seat belts - using five die progressive cold formers. Shannon earlier acquired Detroit Heading LLC and consolidated production to Shannon’s facility. Both companies are located in Madison Heights, Michigan.

Stanley Black & Decker reports ‘flat’
