CSC bar and rod prices unchanged for June


Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation has left its bar and rod prices unchanged for June delivery. The company announced reductions of an average 2.08% across most other grades.

n overall pricing CSC noted a recent World Steel Association projection that global steel consumption would increase by only 2.9% in 2013 and said buyers had become more conservative because of over supply


and low demand, resulting in failures for the steel industry in raising its prices. For the second half 2013 CSC anticipates that prices will hit the bottom and bounce supported by rises in raw material costs. CSC commented that Chinese mills were trying to lift their


exports by selling at “considerably low prices”. The Group went onto announce intentions to file an anti-dumping suit in “response to the unfair trade behaviours from Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indian mills which try to sell these products continuously to Taiwan with extremely low prices”. In Mainland China BaoSteel announced it would hold its steel prices for May, following six months of month on month increases.

China fastener output dips


China’s metal fasteners output fell 4.7% to 983,200 tonnes during the first two months of 2013, ChinaFastener.com reports.

fasteners. Other major provinces included Hebei accounting for 17.6% of production in January/February 2013; Sichuan (13.3%) and Shanghai (8.95%). China’s fastener output in 2012 rose to 5.48 million tonnes, a 10.3% increase over 2011. The China Fastener Industry Association reported that full year exports were down 3.6% in volume to 2.49 million tonnes but value increased marginally to US$4.71 billion (3.6 billion euros).
