New moves include slim hand-stick cleaners which mix the benefits of an upright with a hand-held cordless device and an upright bagless with smooth swivel steering, reducing the need to keep moving heavy items out of the way for a good clean; and a bagless upright with a ‘lift-away canister’ – apparently the first on the market – giving a reach of 11m and allowing cleaning of hard-to-reach places like skirting boards and coving. Also new is a range of cleaners with a patented soft bumper system that absorbs impacts and protects walls and furniture from marks and damage, and an eco-friendly cleaner which features a motor using revolutionary compressor fan blades like those of a jet engine. The blades force air though the system, at 45 litres a second, for a strong pick-up.
In terms of brands, a new one from Germany better known for commercial cleaners has moved into the UK offering a range of dry and wet products including one which can even turn into a leaf blower.
