don’t actually offer true twin-lens 3D shooting capability, but do include modes that can stitch together three-dimensional images using two consecutive shots – a good way to introduce your customers to the concept without them having to invest in a dedicated 3D product just yet.

Pocket camcorders

Despite some innovation involving 3D technology, the conventional camcorder market has remained relatively quiet in the past year, although there has been a clear shift away from standard-definition products to high-def models. There is little doubt that this has been fuelled by the standardisation of HD technology and HDTVs becoming the norm. While standard camcorders have seen a relatively static year in sales terms, the popularity of affordable pocket-sized, Flash-based models has continued to flourish. Several brands have introduced pocket camcorder models over the previous year, with many perhaps hoping to cash in on the hole in the market left by the popular Flip Video, when production was inexplicably ceased earlier in 2011. The trend for pocket camcorder models has undoubtedly been helped by the rapid growth of social networking sites with consumers keen to upload and share short video clips without the hassle or cost of investing in a full-size camcorder model. There are also plenty of rugged, waterproof pocket camcorder models available for sporty types or those who require a secondary product to shoot footage while on holiday or on a day out, without risking damage to their main camcorder. As well as the ability to capture footage, most pocket camcorders can also take still images.

Sony HDR-TD10 Accessories

Although the recession has proved to be tough for the digital imaging sector, just like any other, it has the advantage of a large variety of add-on sales opportunities. Along with essentials such as SD cards and batteries, there are plenty of other products that can be suggested at the time of sale.

Along with obvious camera accessories such as bags, lenses and tripods, it’s also important to mention ancillary products such as home photo printers and digital photo frames. Stocking a wide range of accessories, at all price levels is a no brainer when it comes to cameras and camcorders, especially as you’ll often be dealing with hobbyists, as well as mass market consumers. ■
