Although the personal audio sector has experienced pressure from the smartphone market, innovation around social networking and wireless streaming, along with a healthy accessory market, is providing potential for profit.
The personal audio market has struggled over the last year, although so has most of the consumer electronics market. In particular, sales of Portable Media Players were down, mainly due to the rapid uptake of smartphones with integrated music and video players. The increasing use of music streaming services such as Spotify has also had a dramatic effect on the way in which consumers listen to music, as growing numbers of people are now getting out of the habit of buying and owning tracks.
