A good-looking extractor can really elevate the kitchen into a design-led scheme. They come in all shapes and sizes, with downdraft extractors that rise effortlessly from the worktop and flush-fit ceiling extractors being the current trends. Glass and stainless steel are the materials most consumers are looking for, as these are low maintenance and easy to clean. Find out if your customer
requires a ducted or recirculation model. Ducted is the most efficient way of extracting air but customers who live in a flat or who don’t have access to an exterior wall will need to use a recirculation hood, where stale air is sucked through a grease filter, cleaned and then pumped back into the room. Two key factors to discuss are the maximum extraction rate needed and the noise level. To work out the extraction required, your customer will need to calculate the volume of their kitchen and times it by 10, to allow for 10 changes of air per hour. The noise level is measured in decibels and this is especially important in an open-plan kitchen. Anything under 60dB is considered quiet. The latest innovations include sensors that activate the hood when the hob is in use and hoods that keep extracting air for a certain length of time after cooking, ensuring all odours are removed. Other features to highlight include dishwasher-safe filters, halogen lights and boost settings.
Range cookers
These freestanding appliances can be used to create a focal point in the kitchen, with professional- style stainless steel models and brightly coloured enamel cookers taking centre stage. Dual fuel is extremely popular, offering the familiarity of a gas hob with the ease of an electric oven. New to market are cookers with electric or gas ovens and induction tops for those looking to combine a modern way of cooking with a traditional look.
