Ovens ✔ Sales Tips ✔

Ask your customer about their specific needs and lifestyle, then suggest a tailor- made cooking package to suit.

The most popular built-in ovens are still single electric, as they appeal to a wide market from first-time buyers and young professionals to families and developers, too. The most sought-after features include automatic programmes, which can recommend how long, what temperature and even which oven shelf to cook on, as well as integrated cooking manuals and memory functions that enable you to save your favourite settings for even speedier results next time. Remember to flag up self-cleaning systems such as pyrolytic cleaning and catalytic liners, as well as additional safety features, such as telescopic shelving, child locks and triple-glazed doors. Steam ovens are a recent introduction to market but thanks to wide press coverage in the home interest sector, many people are starting to see the benefits. Make sure you offer a coordinated steam oven wherever possible to encourage potentially lucrative add-on sales. It’s easier for the customer to visualise their own needs if they can see a working display in an attractive bank of units. Keep it clean, streamlined and modern. Stainless steel is still the most popular finish for built-in appliances with black and white glass following close behind. Another new trend is for compact appliances, which are 45cm high instead of the standard 60cm. These are ideal for smaller kitchens as they can be installed in a horizontal column for maximum impact in a minimal space.

Working displays will enable you to demonstrate the latest features such as induction cooking, pyrolytic cleaning and steam ovens.

Showcase a co-ordinated bank of matching appliances to tempt customers to invest in add-ons such as coffee machines and warming drawers.

Ensure you offer both the latest technology and tried-and-trusted models to appeal to the widest market possible.

Take advantage of manufacturers’ training initiatives wherever possible. Your expert knowledge and advice is what makes you different from the multiples and the Internet.

Use live cookery demonstrations to pull in the crowds and spread the word. Nothing beats being able to see the appliances being used by a professional and tasting the fruits of their labour.
