“Film fans could be interested ” 3DTV

3DTV offers a new way of watching television and will appeal to film fans and those wanting the latest in TV technology. A good way of selling 3DTV is to think of the ‘rule of three’ – viewers need a 3D Ready TV, a 3D source and 3D glasses. There are two basic 3D systems – active, which uses shuttered glasses, and passive, which uses polarised filters. Customers should be told that 3D ready sets can display either active or passive 3D, as well as standard 2D pictures. 3DTV content is currently limited to a specialist 3DTV pay-channel and 3D Blu-ray titles, although some 3D content will be broadcast on free-to-air TV during the 2012 Olympics. Customers should be given the opportunity to view 3D content and experience the new dimension it offers. You should point out that 3D Blu-ray titles require a 3D compatible Blu-ray player and a special HDMI 1.4 cable.

Smart TV

Smart TV (also known as Connected TV) brings together TV broadcasting and the internet, and offers lots of new features and content. Consumers will need a fast broadband connection to get the best from their Smart TV. Smart TVs can offer an array of features such as web surfing, on-demand TV (like BBC iPlayer), YouTube, Skype and films. Many Smart TVs use downloaded apps for additional functionality. Some Smart TVs also conform to the DLNA standard, which means they can share content with other compatible devices, such as a home PC. The key is not to focus on the technology, but on the features and benefits a Smart TV offers. Once again, demonstration is the key. ■
