guards and support staff. Managing this department can be a challenge, but one that Reid Macdonald handled well before leaving to work for the U.S. State Department. After an extensive search, I am pleased to announce that Lisa Virtue is MAC’s new Aquatics Manager. I am confi dent Lisa will pick up where Reid left off, developing our programs and keeping the numerous parts working well together. Lisa comes to MAC with experience in a variety of settings. Most recently, she was the parks and recreation department’s aquatics and fi tness supervisor for the City of Mill Valley near San Francisco. She has also served as the assistant general manager for the Wave House Athletic Club in San Diego, and was the aquatics director for the Kids Club for Fun and Fitness in Vancouver, Wash. Lisa grew up in the Portland area, and is rejoining most of her family, who still live here. She is an Oregon State graduate, and worked at the Osborn Aquatics Center while in school there. In addition to her many certifi cations, including being a Certifi ed Pool Operator, Lisa has been a competitive swimmer, played and coached water polo, taught water exercise and swim lessons, and been a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor. Following last month’s column, I had several members ask me about the Human Performance Lab (HPL) fi tness assessment testing required for personal training. I want to clarify that any of the test items are optional, although completing all of them provides a better baseline from which personal trainers can gauge the effectiveness of your sessions. I look forward to seeing you around the club this month; and have a happy Thanksgiving. WM
