prepare for winter’s sleep; Portland skies turn gray; and people begin thinking about going home, or at least someplace warm and dry, for the fast-approaching holidays. For the MelloMacs, however, November marks the beginning of the group’s concert tour of senior care centers and retirement homes in the metro area, bringing a musical taste of home to the residents.

Under the guidance of director Gus Pappelis, and accompanied by their own “MelloMac Philharmonic Orchestra,” virtuoso pianist John Bennett, the chorus is polishing new material and new routines, enjoying new experiences, and very likely wincing from someone’s pun or odd joke. After all, a chorale ought not be all work and no play.

Thanksgiving weekend marks a shift from the new musical compendia to the traditional holiday-themed songs as that joyful season officially begins. But for now, the MelloMacs invite members to join in the fun. While studied and trained singers are always welcome, all MAC senior members of any and all skill levels are warmly invited into this group of outgoing singers, musicians, and good friends, all of whom contribute toward bringing the MAC into a genuine service to the community as a whole.

Join the fun Mondays at 7 p.m. in the third floor activities room.
