Evening Group takes on Mysterious Shadow
he Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruizzafon is a coming-of-age tale of a young boy who, through the magic of a single book, finds a purpose greater than himself and a hero in a man he never met.

As the story opens, it’s 1945 in postwar Barcelona, Spain. A bookseller leads his motherless son to a mysterious crypt called the cemetery of forgotten books. In this labyrinth are books that have lost their owners. Ten-year-old
Daniel pulls a single tome from the dusty shelves, a book to have for himself. His choice is The Shadow of the Wind. Daniel, with one fateful turn of a page, begins an adventure that unravels another man’s tragedy and solves a mystery that has already taken many lives, a story that marks his entire future. It’s a story so zestfully convoluted it’s impossible to set out in any detail, so book lovers are invited to join the evening literary readers on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in one of the private dining rooms as they unravel this novel page by page. – Oliver Massingale WM
Morning Book Club Reads The Corrections
he read for the Nov. 10 Morning Book Club is The Corrections by Jonathon Franzen. Controversy surrounds Franzen’s story of a dysfunctional family. The characters come to life so completely one cannot wait to see what happens next. The story has equal parts humor and fury. The club shares favorite selections for possible reads in the next year in December; does not meet in January; and discusses The Help by Kathryn Stockett in February.
