MAC Golfers Consider Changes to Program M

AC’s last golfing event of the season, Championship Golf, was held Sept. 24-25 at the Reserve. The men played for both days and the women for one. This final play of the year for MAC golfers is the most intimidating but also the most challenging, as participants get to play with some great golfers. It is a great way to wind up the season for the competitive golfer. The Golf Committee is preparing a survey to send out to all MAC golfers. The committee wants to find out what works and what doesn’t. Several events, such as Spring Play, had poor attendance, although the inclement weather all spring had something to do with this. However, it still doesn’t seem to hold the interest of a very large population of MAC golfers. The committee is considering dropping Summer Play. This event was designed for the casual golfer to play nine holes in a relaxed setting

Championships Golf is the last event of the year

on a Sunday afternoon. After play, MAC provided drinks, snacks and prizes. In the past, only a few have taken advantage of this event. This year there were cancellations due to lack of interest.

On a positive note, the committee was very pleased with the Junior Golf Camp sign ups. This has been a successful

endeavor with MAC working with the Reserve to provide group lessons for juniors. The yearly Scramble always seems to draw a substantial number of players and most participants seem to enjoy this outing. The First Tee Cocktail Party this spring was a huge success. The committee had hoped to draw some more regular MAC golfers from those attending. Many in MAC’s golfing community belong to private clubs. However, what can the committee do to spark more interest in supporting more of our golfing events? MAC provides handicap resources, a reciprocal agreement with the Reserve and many options to play at other venues during the golfing season. Please take the time to complete the survey and provide the committee with honest feedback so it is better able to serve MAC golfers. Lastly, we thank all of the members who participated in one or more of MAC’s golf events. Anyone with interest in being on the Golf Committee, please contact Outdoor Department Manager Chad Failla at 503-517-7574.
