Racquetball Wraps 2011 with Turkey Shoot

he summer of 2011 was productive for the racquetball community. The club held its first summer tournaments, two single-day events that featured a handicapped singles bracket and two round robin doubles groups. Turnout was about the same for both, nearly 25 participants. Sanjay Bedi won the singles, with Laura van der Veer winning the D division. The teams of Hank Marcus and Andrew Enriquez, and Steve Lutz and Scott Jackson won their respective doubles groups. Participation and interest was high enough that the committee plans to have similar tournaments in the future. The summer finished with an Ektelon demonstration day where members received coaching and input from Dave Azuma and had the opportunity to test out the full line of Ektelon racquets before getting the fall season underway. The fall season concludes in November with the annual Turkey Shoot tournament Monday, Nov. 21 and Tuesday, Nov. 22; registration is open to all who would like to participate. Sign-ups for the winter season are ongoing and open to all. Now is the perfect time to get involved, with the weather sending everyone indoors. The winter season starts in mid-December, with a league draft tentatively scheduled for Dec. 1. For more information or to sign up, contact Robin Franklin at 503-517-7592 or rfranklin@theMAC.com.
