A second year of La Niña conditions means more snow on the mountain. Get out more with MAC ski programs.


L


ast ski season, the weather phenomenon known as La Niña reared its wintry head, dumping more than 50 feet of snow on Mount Hood, including an early-April squall that dumped four feet of powder on local resorts in less than a week.


And this winter, La Niña is back for more, according to local forecasters. The National Weather Service reports that cooling Pacific Ocean temperatures mean a second winter of La Niña conditions are likely on the way, and that means a colder, wetter winter in the Pacific Northwest; 12 of the last 13 have resulted in higher than average snowfall in the Cascades. For skiers, that means more snow on Mount Hood. And the Outdoor Activity Program is ready to help members get up to the mountain more often with ski buses, classes and more this winter. Don’t get stuck in the rain – get ready to play in the snow.
