Meet Jake

Jake Jervis is the proud owner of Greensleeves North East Oxfordshire. Here, he tells a little bit about himself and why he chose the franchise

techniques. Furthermore, the company directors are all franchisees in their own right. As a result, they understand exactly what operating a franchise entails and are on hand to provide assistance and guidance when required and to help with any issues that may arise. In joining Greensleeves, franchisees are not just buying a lawn treatment business, they are joining a nationally recognised and trusted company with high levels of customer loyalty. “We have large numbers of long-term customers and also lots of new ones signing up all the time. This is due to the excellent value and high- quality levels of service that we provide,” says David Truby, managing director of Greensleeves.

“Our franchise also appeals to family partnerships. We are a family-type business, as we have fathers and sons, sisters and brothers, and husbands and wives becoming franchisees. It’s a very sociable business, because you are dealing with people all the time, speaking to them, and making sure that you provide the highest standards for their lawn care.”

Why did you go down the franchise route and why did you choose to invest in Greensleeves? From an early age I enjoyed working outdoors, so I decided to pursue a career that allowed me to do this and enrolled onto an NVQ Level 2 sports turf management course. While working as a greenkeeper I came across lawn care franchises online. Initially, I joined another lawn care company but was made redundant. Shortly afterwards, I was introduced to a Greensleeves lawn manager and was impressed with the company’s work ethic compared with others I had previously worked for.

How has becoming a franchisee changed your life?

Having spent over six years working for other franchises, franchising has been a huge part of my life. By becoming a franchisee in my own right I am now my own boss. I love that I can run my business the way I choose and, to an extent, I can pick my own hours allowing me to spend quality time with my family.

What diff erentiates your franchise from the competition? When I joined Greensleeves I was amazed by the levels of customer service – we really care for our customers. We constantly upgrade our wide range of products, which enables us to provide a better service.

In your opinion, what makes a successful franchisee? You need to be hard working, realistic and willing to go the extra mile to make sure your franchise is successful. My advice to someone thinking of buying their fi rst franchise is go for it. I wish I had done it sooner!
