NEWS

Millinery Hub owner Lindsay Whitehead, and LCI Melbourne Fashion and Costume Academic Todd Anthony. The system of adjudicating was the same as every year before, a numerical system in which no two judges knew what the others’ scores were, leaving all in great suspense as to who would snatch the overall grand prize until the release date. The announcement of the winners was made at the historic Labassa Mansion in Melbourne amid dozens of local milliners and patrons of the National Trust of Victoria visiting the house for the annual MIMC millinery display. The wonderful surprise

was a tie between Faye Partridge and Wendy White. Faye’s piece, titled ‘Wedding Heaven’, was described by the judges as a thoughtful, skilful interpretation and a design that demonstrates great cohesion to the dress. ‘Pink Delight’, created with its sophisticated application of ostrich feathers by Wendy White, told an effortless story without directly matching the garment of choice. Receiving the bronze medal for this year’s MIMC Olympics was ‘Love in Bloom’ by Holly Sansalone of Holly Barker Millinery. The People’s Choice was hosted online through the MIMC website and presented to Stephanie Smith of Stephanie Elizabeth Millinery for her piece ‘Susan’.

Organiser Catherine Ellen shared the success of the competition on the night of the award ceremony: “With MIMC in its sixth year, it is wonderful to have the support of international and local milliners as we showcase their design and workmanship through the competition.”

German Hat

Association Elects Its First

Woman Head

The Association of German Hat Retailers (GDH) has elected a new board and for the first time in its history has appointed a woman to its top position. At its online general meeting held earlier this year, the association unanimously chose Angela Breiter as its chairperson. Angela Breiter replaces Andreas

Voigtländer, who for 24 years led the fortunes of the GDH, the professional trade body that represents the interests of hat retailers in Germany. The outgoing chair, who is owner of Hut Mühlenbeck in Wiesbaden, was elected honorary chairman at the general meeting and will continue to support the association in the future.

As the GDH remarked, the election of

Angela Breiter signifies a change of generation at the top of the association. Born in 1991, the

Angela Breiter is the new chairperson and the first woman to be head of the GDH hat trade organisation
