Wet one of the squares under the tap, roll it up and put it aside until it gets tacky. Iron the other two squares flat.

Keep ironing the bonded strip every few minutes, until you can bend it without getting it wrinkled.

Put the squares on top of each other at a slight angle, and with the wet square in the middle. Iron the squares together until they have bonded.

Turn the piece over every now and then when ironing until it is hard enough.

Iron the strip one final time to make sure it is really hard. Place the layered ends over each other...

...and pin the overlap together. Give the buckram a good oval shape using your hands.

Sew the overlap together. The buckram is quite stiff, so you need to use strong thread.

Here we are using a double Gutermann extra strong thread and a big, strong needle. If you find it too hard to sew the buckram, you can either use a leather needle or wet the material with a damp cloth to soften it a bit when sewing.

Sew the overlap with a cross stitch on both sides of the overlap.

Don’t have your thread too long when sewing, as it will knot and snag easily.
