AWS TO EXPLORE LARGE-SCALE LIVE EVENT DELIVERY AND PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY
IBC2023 saw more than 1200 attendees join the Showcase Theatre sessions coordinated by Amazon Web Services (AWS), so it’s not surprising that the company has again decided upon a signifi cant participation in the same area at this year’s show. In fact, AWS will host no fewer than seven Showcase Theatre sessions, all taking place in Hall 8 today. Tracy Geist, Global Head of Industry Marketing for Media & Entertainment, Games and Sports at AWS, says: “We have found the Showcase Theatre to be an incredibly valuable platform to highlight the results AWS’s customers and partners have achieved, and how their innovative work can inspire others attending IBC. It is the perfect format to dive deep into how our customers and partners are transforming the industry. “You’ll notice that every session we do focuses on one to several customers or partners, with AWS taking the role of moderator. This not only shows attendees what these organisations have been able to achieve using the cloud and generative AI tools, but offers them a chance to hear directly from the experts who actually deployed these tools.”
A SHARED VOICE
Sessions include a conversation featuring Mansoor Fazil, Director of Platform Engineering at Sky, who will discuss how the broadcaster delivers large-scale events to Europe and beyond. Through this discussion, taking place from 10:00-10:45, attendees will have the chance to gain an understanding of the challenges involved in delivering a virtually fl awless streaming experience at scale, as well as learn how Sky is approaching future large-scale events, geographical expansion, and how it plans to leverage generative AI to match evolving viewer habits and enhance developer and operational effi ciency in its future streaming platform. Then, from 11:15-11:45, ITV Director of
Production Helen Killeen and Edit Cloud CEO Simon Green will join AWS to explore cutting production costs and editing time. Attendees will hear how cloud technology not only made a popular, long-running show commercially viable, but also supported storytellers to collaborate, access and use new creative tools and improve environmental sustainability. From 16:00-17:30, AWS and Formula 1 will take the stage together to discuss how the sport leverages AWS technology to produce

the greatest racing spectacle on the planet. Visitors will learn how Formula 1 is transforming its customer data platform by leveraging AWS infrastructure, helping them reach target demographics and driving growth. After the discussion, attendees can stay on to watch the qualifying session from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, including live expert predictions, reactions and insights, as well as interactive driving experiences. There will also be a hands-on activation for attendees who stop by the session. “I also want to share that AWS and Nvidia
are planning a session about revolutionising media and entertainment with generative AI,” says Geist. “This will dive into how generative AI is transforming the media and entertainment industry by enabling hyper-personalisation,
dynamic content and immersive experiences. This session will also cover best practices for selecting, adopting and deploying generative AI technologies into media infrastructure.” Considering the enduring importance of the IBC Show as a whole, Geist remarks: “Everyone in AWS’s Media & Entertainment, Games and Sports organisation has IBC circled on their calendars. Getting the chance to meet with customers and partners from across the globe in Amsterdam is incredibly important for our business. As we have in the past, we continue to push ourselves to show up in a big way to IBC and introduce new demonstrations and customer success stories to inspire and educate others in the industry on how the cloud is unlocking new possibilities.”
