WIRELESS ECOSYSTEM DEBUTS WITH BIDIRECTIONAL WIDEBAND TRANSMISSION

Sennheiser BY KEVIN EMMOTT

After years of development and spectrum policy work, Sennheiser is using IBC to unveil a digital wireless ecosystem boasting the world’s fi rst bidirectional wideband technology. Spectera uses Sennheiser’s WMAS (Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems) technology to reduce wireless system complexity while increasing

capability, and offers full remote control and monitoring, including permanent spectrum sensing. Instead of using many individual 200kHz narrowband RF carrier frequencies, Sennheiser wideband transmission allows for fl exible use of the wideband RF channel, such as for digital IEMs, with a latency down to 0.7ms. The Spectera bodypack handles both mic and IEM audio, plus control data, in the same wideband RF channel, while its 1U rack-mount base station handles up to 32

President, Sennheiser, said: “To get this to be a global solution, there has been a huge joint effort of all the technology

development teams and our spectrum policy teams working with the regulators. The solution is completely different to everything on the market.” 8.D50

GAN SSPAS SHOOT FOR THE MOON Celestia TTi

BY KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD Flay: New IP-based OB ‘needs to be able to do everything’

Megahertz BY DAVID FOX

BBC Northern Ireland’s fi rst IP-based OB truck was “a uniquely challenging project”, according to Jon Flay, MD of systems integrator Megahertz. “It wasn’t an existing solution. We had to work very closely with Sony, Nevion and BBC engineers to deliver the project.” Not only is ST 2110 still new, and it was diffi cult to get all the control systems to work together, but long lead times made the full confi guration and integration more diffi cult.

The double-expanded truck is designed so it can be used as

an additional studio gallery, for when all the other galleries are in use, so it is not just a standalone sports OB and needs to work well with existing SDI infrastructure. “It needs to be able to do everything,” he explained, with users able to control it from the facility if necessary. The truck is built around Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem, with hybrid on-premises and cloud capabilities. The media network is a fully redundant spine-leaf confi guration and software- defi ned network, based on ST 2110, under the control of Nevion’s VideoIPath, including a combination of custom-made drivers and NMOS interfaces. 12.F20

IBC is welcoming a new family of products from Celestia TTi’s solid state power amplifi ers (SSPA) portfolio, each based on new-generation Gallium Nitrate (GaN) technology, to cover low frequency bands up to Q band. With NASA currently developing ground infrastructure to communicate with the moon, Celestia TTI’s offerings specifi cally designed for lunar communications include new high-performance K band 500W/250W and X band 400W/800W GaN SSPAs.

Miguel Peña, Sales Director, Celestia Group, said: “The new generation of high-power GaN SSPAs we have developed for high-power uplinks in satellite communications and broadcast applications deliver outstanding performance in demanding operations, with superior functionality and operation.” “It’s great to be at IBC,” continued Peña. “The show represents our local market where most of our customers are placed, and our added value is that we can supply products locally compared to our competitors in the US. We craft it in Europe and sell it worldwide.” 1.A52
