Personal Care to host Bitop webinar on Ectoin natural ingredient on 18 February
Personal Care will host the latest in its popular series of webinars next month with a presentation on Ectoin by German personal care ingredient maker Bitop. ‘Skincare’s Must-Have
Ingredient: Lab-grown Powerhouse Active Bitop Ectoin natural’ will take place at 14:00 GMT on Wednesday 18 February. Hosted by Personal Care editor
Tim Probert, the presentation will be given by Bitop technical sales and marketing manager René Schmitz (pictured). Schmitz, who specialises in
extremolytes such as Ectoin and
their use as active ingredients in personal care, holds a master’s degree in Business Chemistry from Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. He previously worked at the
Fraunhofer Institute and Research Centre Jülich, gaining experience with extremophilic microorganisms that underpins his work today. The webinar will highlight why
Bitop’s multifunctional active Ectoin natural is a must-have in skin care and provides insights into emerging trends shaping the cosmetic industry.
“The demand for 100% natural, highly effective, safe, and
multifunctional active ingredients is steadily increasing,” said Schmitz. “Only a few single molecules
demonstrate a high level of clinically proven efficacy while also giving formulators the flexibility to deliver multiple benefits with one bioactive, such as anti-ageing, skin barrier repair, soothing, anti-inflammation, long-term hydration, brightening, and global protection - against pollution, blue light, and more,” he added. Core Biogenesis wins L’Oréal beauty technology innovation prize
Core Biogenesis has won the French track award in the L’Oréal North Asia 2025 Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Programme. The award, which recognizes
a French biotech company that is reinventing the production of active proteins through plants, was given for its Peauvita and Peauforia ingredients. These actives are designed to support skin vitality and advance a new generation of science-driven skin care, reflecting a future where biotechnology and sustainability redefine modern beauty. “In 2020, we started Core
Biogenesis to reinvent how this industry uses proteins, making them stable, bioavailable, and clinically superior,” said Core Biogenesis CEO & co-founder Alexandre Reeber.
“Five years later, our technology
powers the next generation of science-driven, results-focused beauty brands,” he added. Founded by L’Oréal China and
co-organised with Business France and the Oriental Beauty Valley, the challenge identifies and supports pioneering startups developing technologies that drive the future of beauty — spanning AI, green science, and sustainability. The Big Bang Challenge offers
winners strategic mentorship, access to L’Oréal’s research and innovation ecosystem, and potential investment opportunities through Meicifang. The Core Biogenesis award was
presented by Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L’Oréal in Shanghai.
“For L’Oréal, the Big Bang
Challenge serves as an essential bridge between our group and dynamic start-ups around the world, fostering cross-sector collaboration and accelerating the emergence of disruptive solutions,” she said.
