relation to education rather than it being a tap on the shoulder. We strive to be as innovative as possible, to try and find new channels to deliver information and education to players. From WhatsApp through to different social media channels, we try to get information to players in a format that they're going to see and engage with.


Earlier this year the ITIA sanctioned six current and former tennis players for breaches of TACP. What can you say on the record about the collaborative effort between the ITIA and Belgian authorities to sanction offending parties in this case?


Tose sanctions were the culmination of a big piece of work we did in conjunction with Belgian law enforcement agencies. We each have different powers with different access to information and when we're dealing with something of significant disruption, we can only have the best outcome by everyone working together, sharing information when they can and collaborating. I think all sports have got to recognise that there are seeking to make ill-gotten gains from taking advantage of betting markets. Every single sport is susceptible to that, and tennis is no different. We will always look to share information with police and other authorities where we think that's appropriate.


How important is it for an independent body such as the ITIA to have legislative teeth?


It's essential that we have teeth. It's not sufficient for sports to talk about being clean sports and to run integrity campaigns. To deliver that on the ground is essential, investing the right resources and ensuring the body has the necessary investigative powers to run investigations. Tennis is fortunate in the sense that our funders recognise this and have in effect set up the ITIA to respond to that and continue to fund us. Our sanctions can range from a warning up to a lifetime ban and significant fines.


We've got a set of sanctioning guidelines which guide our processes and sanctions we offer. Tey also guide the independent hearing officers when they're looking at a particular case. As you'd expect, those sanctions and guidelines consider plenty relating to offences and factors relating to individuals. Tey also allow some flex where people admit to charges or provide us with broader assistance.
