continuously evolve to detect subtle manipulation patterns unique to micro-markets, analysing both isolated anomalies and cross-market correlations.
To manage this, we've implemented real-time processing capabilities that evaluate betting patterns across several hundreds of global betting operators, including account-level betting data. Tis infrastructure allows simultaneous monitoring of hundreds of micro-markets without sacrificing detection accuracy.
Te Sportradar Integrity Exchange significantly enhances our micro-market surveillance by enabling a global network of over 120 operators across more than 50 countries to immediately report any suspicious activity. Tis is the largest network of its kind in the world facilitating operators to play a vital role delivering essential ground-level intelligence that complements and strengthens our algorithmic detection systems.
We've also developed specialised risk profiles for different sports' micro-markets, recognising that manipulation methods vary significantly between cricket ball-by-ball markets and tennis game-specific wagers, ensuring our detection thresholds are calibrated to each market's unique characteristics.
What hurdles impede cross-border investigations into suspected match-fixing networks? How does Sportradar help bridge any gaps?
Cross-border match-fixing investigations face significant hurdles due to inconsistent legal frameworks worldwide. Many countries lack specific legislation against match-fixing, particularly where sports betting remains illegal. While the Macolin Convention represents progress with 14 ratified states across Europe now bound by its provisions, international coordination remains challenging.
Sportradar helps partners bridge these gaps by facilitating crucial information-sharing between different stakeholders, developing standardised reporting protocols, and, crucially, involving betting operators, through the global Sportradar Integrity Exchange. Tis empowers bookmakers to report suspicious betting activity and participate in integrity investigations worldwide.
Our approach promotes cooperation between sports bodies and law enforcement agencies, both nationally and
internationally. Tis multi-stakeholder strategy is essential because match-fixing networks exploit jurisdictional gaps. By helping to connect sports organisations, law enforcement, betting operators, and regulators through our technological infrastructure and expertise, Sportradar assists in creating a unified front against manipulation attempts, enhancing both cross-border investigations and preventive measures.
How is Sportradar investing in AI and how do we see this evolving in the future?
At Sportradar, we are harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create fairer environments across sport and sports betting globally. One of the most impactful applications of our AI technology is in combating online abuse in real time. By deploying advanced machine learning algorithms, we are able to detect and filter out harmful, offensive, or targeted content directed at athletes on social media platforms. Tis proactive approach helps shield athletes from harassment, racism, and other forms of abuse, allowing them to focus on performance without the mental burden of online toxicity. As AI systems continuously learn and adapt to evolving language and behaviour patterns, this will ensure that protection remains effective and relevant.
One of the other most significant trends across sports betting globally is the growing need to enhance and standardise player protection measures. From a regulatory perspective, we are seeing more jurisdictions provide clearer and firmer guidance on how operators should monitor their customers and intervene when problematic behaviour is identified. Notably, new regulations are increasingly including the need for technology and more specifically, AI, to be adopted by operators. Italy, Germany, Denmark, and Brazil are some of the examples where regulators have referenced this and we expect this to continue.
Potentially, AI could revolutionise the way operators identify and prevent problematic gambling behaviour, bringing benefits to all industry stakeholders with more effective and efficient detection. To support this, Sportradar has also developed Bettor Sense, an AI-powered monitoring tool, offering comprehensive monitoring and impactful insights to guide more personalised interventions. By implementing such technology and leveraging these capabilities, the betting and gaming industry can create a safer and more responsible betting environment, ultimately protecting users, athletes and improving internal productivity and promoting sustainable growth.
