meet the growing needs of the state. Gov. Beshear said that the state was losing out on more than $500 million in gaming revenue go across the border to states like Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.
As a result he said he was firmly behind a bill put forward by Rep. Adam Koenig that would legalize sports betting in the state. HB 175 passed the House Licensing, Occupations & Administrative Regulations Committee but it did
not get a vote on the House floor last year. The bill would have allowed sports wagering at licensed race tracks, as well as a mobile app that could be used to bet anywhere in Kentucky. It would also set up a regulatory framework for residents to legally play online poker and fantasy sports. Wagering would be under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, with only horse racing tracks and the Kentucky Speedway eligible to receive a license. In

December, Koenig filed another bill ahead of this year - BR 364, which is similar in scope.
“Representative Adam Koenig has filed a sports betting bill. I fully support it, and we should pass it. But that shouldn’t be the end of the conversation. Because now, all of our neighbouring states – most all of them Republican led – have embraced expanded gaming, while we are being left behind.” Gov. Beshear said.
