BETTING ON SPORTS AMERICA APRIL 28-30, 2020

New Jersey: centre of the action

The dedicated sports betting trade show for North America returns in April. G3 discusses SBC’s follow-up to last year’s inaugral hit event with company founder and CEO, Rasmus Sojmark

participate as speakers, people who want to attend, and operators, suppliers and affiliates who view BOSA as a great way to showcase their products and build their brands in North America.

What are your expectations for the event?

We can’t wait for it. Te inaugural Betting on Sports America last year was a huge highlight for SBC, bringing together stakeholders from new US markets, Nevada and casino veterans, and established European operators to share knowledge, identify opportunities, make contacts and do business - and we know from our customers that many of them did great business there.

Tere’ll be more of the same this year, although the excitement around the event will feel different after such a successful 12 months for the industry in the US. It’s likely to be a real celebration of the phenomenal growth that online sportsbooks have achieved in New Jersey, with everyone keen to learn from their experiences.

How has Betting on Sports America grown from its inaugural edition in 2019?

We’ve had to make changes from last year, both to reflect the rapidly evolving market conditions in the US and because we’ve experienced growing demand from experts who want to

So, it’s very much a case of bigger and better for 2020, as the event becomes the largest dedicated sports betting trade show in the world. Twelve months on there are many more opportunities and issues for the industry to discuss, so the conference agenda has grown to nine tracks with 200 industry experts on the speaker roster.

Has the attendance grown since last year? How does the list of attendees break down between operators, suppliers and affiliates?

We’ve seen incredible interest in this show - driven by the buzz from our US debut and, of course, the spread of legal sports betting - and we expect the attendance to be at least two- thirds higher than in 2019.

About a third of the audience will be senior executives from operators, with all the major players in the US and many Europeans with expansion plans in attendance. Alongside the well-known betting brands, we’ll have representatives from state lotteries and tribal casinos who are investigating the potential offered by sportsbooks.

Another third will be supplier representatives, including platform, data, services and payments solutions providers, with a further 15% from the leading affiliates operating in the U.S. Te remaining delegates will be regulators, gaming lawyers, investors, and representatives of sports clubs and governing bodies, so it’s a diverse

audience offering lots of opportunities to meet invaluable new contacts.

What are the key topics in the agenda?

Te comprehensive agenda covers all the major issues shaping the future of the industry in North America and delegates will have access to more than 50 conference sessions across the nine tracks.

Regulation is obviously a big focus, with expert panels sharing insights on likely developments in various states, safer gambling, avoiding the problems encountered by operators in Europe, the Wire Act and the relationship with law enforcement.

Tere’ll also be sessions examining how sports betting can work in the state lottery and tribal gaming ecosystems, how professional and college sports should approach integrity, the role of gambling sponsorships in US sports, the future of daily fantasy sports, and how affiliates can operate effectively and responsibly in North America.

One major addition to the agenda this year is the Show Me Te Money: Investment in Betting track, which addresses the opportunities the industry offers to investors and what they are looking for. It will climax with our first pitch competition for start-ups, which should be a really exciting hour full of imaginative ideas.

What speakers are you excited about?

It’s tough to pick out particular favourites from the 200 expert speakers we have lined up, as together they offer in-depth insights into key issues across the full scope of the US sports
